Career opportunities within ASD and Learning Disability at St Andrew’s Healthcare in Northamptonshire

Healthcare professionals specialising in Autism and Learning Disabilities who are looking for a fresh challenge in 2021 should consider the following opportunities at St Andrew’s Healthcare in Northampton, a charity providing specialist mental healthcare for patients.

This is an exciting time to join St Andrew’s ASD (autistic spectrum disorder) and Learning Disability Division as they have created new wards which will be used for low and medium secure adults, with specialist facilities and teams for patients with autism or learning disabilities.

The aim is to improve patients’ quality of life and reduce risk, in the least restrictive way possible, for individuals with complex presentations. The following roles are currently available:

Consultant Psychiatrist & Specialty Doctor – St Andrew’s is looking to recruit a Consultant Psychiatrist to develop and strengthen their experience working with patients in secure care settings, with the chance to also develop research and clinical ideas. The successful candidate will lead a multi-disciplinary team and oversee the management of patients with often complex ASD or learning disabilities.

The ASD and Learning Disability Division service is forward-thinking, open to new ideas and a holistic approach is taken to patient care and treatment.  This will be a personally and professionally rewarding role, where the post-holder will be able to undertake non-clinical activities of interest e.g. research, teaching, governance and management – in an innovative way, and influence the direction of services in order to attain the best outcomes for patients.

Occupational Therapy Technical Instructor, ASD and Learning  – St Andrew’s is also looking for an enthusiastic Occupational Therapy Technical Instructor with an interest in working with ASD & Learning Disabilities. The role involves working with an Occupational Therapy team to undertake assessments and treatment within a forensic psychiatric setting.

Under the support and guidance of a registered Occupational Therapist, the successful candidate will use technical and creative skills to provide patient centred programmes of therapeutic activities, to enable an individual to achieve their goals. They will also have the opportunity to undertake training to improve their knowledge and skills and develop in the role.

As well as climbing the career ladder these roles enable candidates to relocate to Northampton and benefit from lower cost housing and more affordable living, along with the opportunity to advance their careers in a leading mental health facility.
