Welsh Rugby Union supports Forever Flowers campaign
THE Welsh Rugby Union (WRU) is supporting City Hospice’s award-winning Forever Flowers campaign this year.
Forever Flowers is an ‘in memory’ campaign which invites supporters to purchase a limited-edition flower to remember cherished family members, friends and loved ones. The unique, lasting tributes will form a striking display at Cardiff Castle from Saturday July 30 to Sunday August 14.
This year’s Forever Flower is a sunflower, which for many symbolises admiration, loyalty, devotion and positivity.
Staff from City Hospice recently visited the WRU’s training camp and spoke to players about Forever Flowers. Players heard about the charity’s important work in the community, from specialist palliative care to free bereavement support, and pledged their support to the campaign.
Nigel Walker, WRU Performance Director and City Hospice Ambassador, said: “I am delighted that the WRU and our players are supporting City Hospice’s Forever Flowers campaign.
“It will be a very special display at Cardiff Castle with each sunflower representing the life of someone who was loved. I am looking forward to visiting the display and would encourage our rugby community to support the campaign.”
Purchasing a Forever Flower supports the work of City Hospice, the only provider of home-based specialist palliative care in the capital. The charity, Cardiff’s local hospice, provides care to people with terminal or life limiting illnesses, as well as essential counselling and support services for the families of their patients.
Following the pandemic and the challenges around grieving, City Hospice’s free bereavement support is available to anyone in Cardiff who needs it, not only families in their care.
The charity’s continued care and compassion for its patients, families and community during the pandemic and beyond, as well as the opportunity to remember loved ones through the Forever Flowers campaign, has been recognised locally and nationally this year. City Hospice won the ‘Charity’ category at the Cardiff Life Awards and CSR Campaign of the Year at the Wales Business Awards.
