Perforce Software Showcases New Digital Asset Management Solution at GDC 2022

At the 2022 Game Developers Conference, Perforce Software Debuts a Beta Version of Their New Digital Asset Management Tool, Helix DAM, to the Gaming Community.

MINNEAPOLIS, March 17, 2022 – Perforce Software, a provider of versioning and collaboration tools for software creators requiring productivity, visibility, and scale along the development lifecycle, reveals its new Helix Digital Asset Management (Helix DAM) solution. The newly released beta version will be demonstrated at the annual Game Developers Conference this week in San Francisco, California.

As the game industry continues to shift, artists and designers are quickly outnumbering game developers, exposing a need for teams to better manage the numerous and large creative assets associated with game creation. Perforce Software — known as the game development standard for version control — designed Helix DAM to address the gaps in current processes to help maximize the use of artist and designer creations.

Perforce CTO, Brad Hart explains, “Our customers have clearly communicated to us that the key to releasing a great title is having the ability to iterate.” He continues, “A common problem described to us by game studios small and large is the amount of time that is wasted creating the asset again and again because it is ‘faster’ than locating and repurposing it. Helix DAM is built to help studios secure all their creative assets in a single location and make them easily findable and sharable via the same platform.”

Built as a new UI layer on top of Helix Core, Helix DAM helps studios centralize art assets their team has already created to streamline and simplify the management of 2D, 3D, and animation files and increase the velocity of the entire team.

Launching the beta at GDC allows indie and AAA studios to test out the new tool and deliver feedback. Creatives can experiment in a test environment and see how Helix DAM makes it easy to find, review, use, and share their work. Katie Cole, Gaming Evangelist and Director of Product Marketing at Perforce says, “We are excited to be back in person to demo Helix DAM! With features like automatic AI tagging and robust search, our universal repository will help teams reuse assets without the headache and keep everything secure.”

To learn more about Helix DAM, attend Gerhard Krüger (Product Manager at Perforce) and Katie Cole’s session “Stop Wasting Your Game Art!” on March 24, 2022, from 2:00 p.m. – 2:30 p.m. PT or stop by the Perforce booth #S569. Learn more about GDC events here: https://bit.ly/3JoUAcA.

New functionality will be added to Helix DAM throughout the beta process and studios are encouraged to try out the new tool and provide feedback.

Metricell Are Awarded New Digital Asset Management Platform Pilot

Horsham, United Kingdom, 09 February 2022: Metricell are pleased to have been selected for the Digital Connectivity Infrastructure Accelerator (DCIA) project, a government initiative which allowed local authorities to bid for funding to develop and implement digital asset management solutions, with the goal to open up public assets for rollout of advanced wireless networks. Metricell have been selected by West Sussex County Council to work as the software provider for their OpenAsset Loc8tor project.

West Sussex County Council have been chosen as one of eight pilots nationwide to develop and trial the new digital asset management platform, which aims to assist local authorities and the mobile telecommunications market in working alongside one another, in order to make public sector assets more readily available. The project go-ahead and £498k funding has been provided by the DCMS (Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport), and the project will run from February 2022 to March 2023.

The OpenAsset Loc8tor is a project led by West Sussex County Council in partnership with neutral host Freshwave, leading software provider Metricell, together with Adur and Worthing Councils, Arun District Council, Chichester District Council, Crawley Borough Council, Horsham District Council and Mid-Sussex District Council.

“We are delighted to be involved with the new digital asset management platform pilot,” said Tom Staniland, Metricell’s Managing Director. “Working alongside West Sussex County Council on this digital innovation is not only exciting, but really important to us and our core ethos of being better connected within our local communities.”

The much-anticipated platform will collate, index and visualise all available public sector asset data, market them to Mobile Network Operators and, ultimately automate the site acquisition process, therefore helping to accelerate commercial investment and help improve coverage in poorly served areas.

MOD selects FotoWare for digital asset management of new public photo archive

The MOD has worked with UK/Norwegian software provider FotoWare to launch a new website with a library of over 5,000 videos and 10,000 images available for the public to access.

Following improvements to its former site, which was customised by a third party company, the MOD needed a new site that retained all of the customised features, but also ensured compliance with the strict requirements laid out by the UK Government for all of its websites.

FotoWare had worked on a similar website for the Australian Government’s Department of Defence, where a custom front end was developed using the FotoWare solution and API (Application Programming Interface). That same front end was what the UK’s MOD wanted for its own new public-facing site, so FotoWare was employed to customise it.

FotoWare implemented a solution to take the new site forward, adding more keyboard controls and a cookie banner, which is a requirement of the UK Government for all of its websites, to ensure they are fully WCAG compliant.

Behind the scenes, FotoWare provides controls for the website including a resizable image slider and a powerful advanced search. For users searching for Red Arrow images, for example, the FotoWare solution makes it easier for the general public and news agencies to find exactly what they were looking for.

FotoWare also provided an extra layer of download security for the new sites including adding a CAPTCHA tool for download of files.

FotoWare has ensured that the digital asset managers and internal teams at the MOD can create albums, with specific metadata and tags, to control what appears on the news packages screen. So, all images with the same news story tags, are stored in one album for the media to view and download.

“The new MOD site is a nice window for members of the public to see all of the amazing defence imagery that is available. This includes all imagery from the armed forces, explains Panay Triantafillides, Defence Imagery Editor & Digital Asset Manager, Ministry of Defence.
