New distribution deal set to provide export boost for Goodfellow

A surge in demand for specialist metals and materials to support global R&D projects has seen Goodfellow hit a new export milestone.

The majority of the company’s current revenue is now sent overseas to 60 different countries and it is planning for a further 50% boost in the Iberian market after signing a new distribution agreement with MicroPlanet.

The deal will strengthen its presence in a key territory that is currently home to a significant amount of research and high value manufacturing that requires some of the 170,000 different metals and materials distributed from its Ermine Business Park facility.

Both firms share several synergies and values, including world class customer service, speed of response, quality products and the importance of investing in technical knowledge and support.

The agreement comes at an exciting time for Goodfellow, who has also just rebranded for the first time in over 45 years and launched a new client-centric website (www.goodfellow.com).

“Export has been at the core of our offering for decades and, as such, we invest heavily in ensuring we have a strong ‘local’ presence on the ground in key markets,” explained Simon Kenney, Chief Executive Officer of Goodfellow.

“This is achieved by great distributors like MicroPlanet in Iberia and through other agreements we have in place with Goodfellow GmbH, SARL and Corp in the USA. Understanding different markets and their customer requirements is critical to our expansion, with international sales increasing each year.”

He went on to add: “Our ongoing investment in stockholding, our expert team of technical scientists and bespoke processing services continue to be a valuable resource for R&D departments and scientific specialists looking to push the boundaries of innovation that achieve cutting-edge applications all over the world.

“These include new opportunities in fusion energy, battery technology, space exploration and a new cancer treatment.”

Goodfellow, which employs more than 100 people at its site in Huntindgon, has also pressed the button on new branding to reflect the modern-day image of the business.

Inspiration for the new design was taken from the baseline of the firm’s products at a nano, microscopic and macroscopic level, with the shapes corresponding to rods, tubes, balls and beads.

These spheres are collated together to form the brand icon that sits above the new Goodfellow strapline of ‘Advanced Materials, Innovation Delivered’.

This marketing milestone for the business comes at the same time as the new website launch, an extensive project that has taken nine-months to complete and has involved pretty much every member of the team.

The concept is to create an immersive site that showcases the ethos of the company, acts as a unique technical guide for R&D and scientific experts and, importantly, makes it easy for existing and new customers to navigate the 170,000 different products it can supply.

Claire Hartley, Chief Marketing Officer, continued: “Linking the website with a dynamic visual identity, which has the potential to bring other brands in underneath it, was extremely important for us as we look to grow further across the world and deliver a best-in-class user experience.

“It’s an integral part of the marketing mix and a new way for us to continuously improve the way we engage with our growing client base.”

She concluded: “There will be lots of new content, new project launches and improved frequency of customer communications to educate and add value. This will be in person, at events, webinars and through our new podcast series.”

Pioneering AceOn scale up for global success

The boss of leading renewable energy and battery specialist AceOn says the company is ready to grow so that it can expand its customer base across the UK and around the world.

Mark Thompson, managing director of Telford-based AceOn Group, is taking part in a special Innovate UK Scale Up programme to position the company for growth as it continues to develop new products and patented solutions to respond to the climate crisis and the growing need for energy storage and non-diesel portable generators.

Mark says AceOn is fiercely proud of its role developing and manufacturing environmentally-responsible and sustainable products in the UK, establishing a solid supply chain from which goods are then exported across the globe.

With a particular interest in growing its portfolio of innovative Intellectual Property (IP), the company is currently working with battery cell manufacturer AMTE Power to develop ground-breaking Sodium ion batteries, which are more cost effective, safer and sustainable than lithium cells for renewable energy storage applications.  AceOn is also leading research into developing second life solutions for used electric car batteries and accelerating development work on a portable solar energy storage system already being trialled in Africa.

AceOn is also pioneering commercial and domestic renewable energy storage systems and is a UK leader in helping train installers and technicians in new solar and battery technologies.

“For the last year I have been part of a peer-to-peer networking group organised by the ScaleUp Institute which helps its members to grow their businesses through shared learning, networking and access to experts and inspirational speakers,” says Mark.

“It has been a terrific experience. I’ve been able to share my own experiences of running a rapidly growing operation, and from working with the group, we now have a wealth of ideas for how we can further grow AceOn over the coming years and accelerate the take up of the sustainable, renewable technology and the circular economy, which will be the only way this planet survives the climate challenge.

“We are now developing the solutions and technology to help drive the changes we all need to make to reach Net Zero. One example of this in action is our campaign to encourage businesses to ‘dump the diesel’ by switching to our clean and green battery-powered off-grid products to power machines and equipment. This is putting us on the mainstage in the UK, but it’s now giving us export opportunities to share our vision with markets around the world.”

Mark, who was appointed an Export Champion by the Department for International Trade earlier this year, said the UK brand was still highly sought after around the globe.

“We know that technology developed and manufactured in the UK has a reputation for excellence all over the world and we want to play our part in this country’s economic future by exporting to all four corners of the globe.”

John Morris, peer-to-peer ecosystem executive at the ScaleUp Institute, praised Mark for his input into the group.

“I chair a peer group in the Midlands as part of Innovate UK EDGE’s commitment to help some of the UK’s most innovative, dynamic and international business address the issues, as well as opportunities, that come with fast growth.

“Mark has been an integral and enthusiastic member of this group for the past 18 months, bringing a level of insight and energy that is valued by everyone involved.

“Peer groups help people like Mark, and businesses like AceOn, get access to fresh perspectives from those from diverse industries, backgrounds and with different ways of looking at challenges and opportunities. The curation of new ideas and best practice that result from this enables bold and ambitious leaders like Mark to build and scale businesses we can all be proud of.”

Mark has more than 30 years’ experience in the industry and co-founded AceOn in 2010. He is a member of the UK Government’s national Faraday Battery Challenge Advisory Board and in 2012 was a winner of the UKTi Growth for Export competition when he designed and brought to market the world’s first four-pin AC solar generator with iPod sound system.

AceOn has just enjoyed its most successful trading year to date. The company exports to several countries in Europe, Africa and the Middle East and has recently started talks with companies in South America and South Korea.

Global Market Success for the TALL Group of Companies as part of their Growing Export Services

The TALL Group of Companies is very proud to be successfully exporting their services to over 30 countries, with products ranging from university degree certificates to cheques to election ballot papers. As a recipient of the Queen’s Award for International Trade and a proud founding member of the Cheshire Commonwealth Association, the TALL Group’s specialist print arm is on course to further strengthen its operations in Africa in 2023.

As major suppliers of international security printing, the longstanding reputation of the TALL Group, for highly secure and top-quality print products and services, has encouraged organisations around the world to rely on a committed work force in the UK to provide a wide range of secure documents.

TALL Security Print, part of the TALL Group of Companies, provide highly valued products and services to emerging markets, primarily in Africa, including cheque scanners to Ghana, secure certificates to 30,000 schools and educational institutions in Kenya, and uniquely personalised degrees to 20 different universities and polytechnics in Nigeria.  The UK’s reputation for reliability, confidentiality and world leading quality counts for a great deal, particularly in Commonwealth countries, where the TALL Group is proud to be at the leading edge of export trade development. As DIT Export Champions for the Northern Powerhouse and East Midlands Region in Runcorn and Hinckley respectively, the TALL Group leads by example backing the Government’s ambitious new ‘Made in the UK, Sold to the World’ plan to help businesses, such as the TALL Group, increase exports and sell their world-class products around the globe.

One of the drivers behind the new growth in Africa is the much-envied fraud prevention features across the TALL Group printed product range. TALL are working closely with organisations in Ethiopia and Somaliland to provide secure cheque and voucher solutions to these challenging markets.

Martin Ruda, Managing Director of the TALL Group, said:

“We are extremely proud of our work overseas and have won a number of awards and commendations for our export service.  We have well established local representatives in many international markets, and regularly host inward visits to view our design and production facilities.”

Alloy Wire International set to spring into action at CASMI’s premier event

Reliable lead times due to investment in raw material stock will be a big selling point as Alloy Wire International returns to SpringWorld 2022 (CASMI) in Illinois, USA this week (October 12-14th).

The UK’s leading manufacturer of round, flat and profile wire will return four years since the last show and is looking forward to engaging with spring makers from across the globe, especially those based in North America where demand has grown by 150%,

AWI will use its presence at the event to launch its new INCONEL alloy 686, a single-phase, austenitic alloy that delivers excellent resistance to general and stress corrosion cracking that can occur in aggressive liquids and gases.

This wire is expected to be used within components destined for corrosive environments – industries that demand material that performs under the most extreme engineering conditions without premature failure.

Areas of application will include springs, wire forms and fasteners throughout the chemical and petrochemical processing, oil & gas extraction, acid processing, waste management and in marine environments.

Alloy Wire International’s Stephen Olley commented: “It’s been a long wait and we are all genuinely excited to meet customers from the spring industry in person again.

“Spring makers had a fundamental role in the Covid-19 response, and we continue to support firms who supply products into automotive, aerospace, medical, nuclear and the resurgent oil and gas markets.

“They require material that can work in all types of demanding applications from intense heat and sub-zero temperatures to highly corrosive environments. This is why we are so pleased to be launching INCONEL alloy 686 after months of trials and testing.

“Available in sizes ranging from .001” (0.025mm) to .197” (5.00mm), this wire can be made to customer specification within 3 weeks.”

Alloy Wire International will have its Technical Director Andrew Du Plessis on booth #1021 for customer meetings during the three-day show to answer any challenging questions surrounding the 60-strong range of alloys it produces.

Alongside several senior sales executives from the UK and the US, he will also be speaking with existing and potential customers about the company’s ability to supply custom-made wire in 3 to 4 weeks – making it one of, if not the fastest and most reliable suppliers across the globe.

Stephen concluded: “When the new warehouse is complete, we will have more than 400 tonnes of stock in place at any one time and that should give our global customer base significant confidence in our ability to deliver what they need, when they need it.

“Visitors will never have a better opportunity to chat to our technical experts, who are often the first people they call upon when trying to select the right alloy.”

AWI’s new Managing Director sets out ambitious growth plans

One of the UK’s leading manufacturers of round, flat and profile wire has named a new Managing Director as it looks to build on a record twelve months.

Alloy Wire International (AWI), which employs 33 people at factories in Brierley Hill and Batley in Yorkshire, has promoted Tom Mander to the role after being with the company for more than 17 years.

The move will see previous MD Mark Venables move upstairs to Chairman, remaining in the business to guide and advise for the foreseeable future.

This is an exciting next step in the AWI journey and will accelerate its ambition to increase sales from its current £13m level to £15m by 2025, with most orders now coming from clients overseas.

“Alloy Wire International is a very special business and I’m honoured to take the reins and help guide the company to the next stage,” commented Tom Mander.

“We’ve come through the pandemic in a good position and, as a critical supplier, continued to provide our material to customers involved in power generation and healthcare, the latter resulting in our wire being used in the VentilatorChallengeUK.”

He continued: “The last twelve months has seen us increase sales to £13m and achieve significant growth in international markets, including the US where orders have risen from $1.8m dollars to $4.2m dollars.

“All the foundations are in place to continue this growth and we’re just about to complete a £1m investment drive that will boost stock levels to one of the highest in our sector, whilst adding three new dry drawing and one wet drawing machines to increase production capacity.”

Alloy Wire International manufactures round, flat and profile wire in over 60 Exotic alloys, such as Inconel, Monel, Hastelloy, Nimonic and Waspaloy.

Founded in 1946 by John Stockdale in an old ambulance station in Old Hill in the Black Country, the company’s founding principles of ‘manufacturing quality, delivering reliability’ has stood the test of time and remains a crucial part of how it deals with its 6000-strong global client base.

Today, the firm continues to operate across 15 different market sectors and, despite global supply chain disruption, is still delivering material in just four weeks from the order being placed.

Mark Venables, who becomes Chairman, added his support: “The senior management team wanted to protect the core values that make AWI so special, so we took the decision last year to make Tom, Adam Shaw and Andrew Du Plessis, MD Designate, Finance Director and Technical Director respectively.

“This was paving the way for the next generation to take over and Tom’s promotion to MD this week is the next step in that process.

“He has been with us for 17 years and understands the culture and our people. It’s a natural appointment and I’m looking forward to seeing the fresh skills and insights he will bring to the role.”

FullCircl Launches HMRC Import & Export Data Extension to Further Boost FSI Due Diligence and Improve Support for Customers Trading Internationally

London, 7th July 2022: FullCircl, the Customer Lifecycle Intelligence (CLI) platform that helps B2B companies in financially regulated industries do better business faster, has launched its latest Premium Data Extension (PDE). The new HMRC Import and Export Data Pack allows users to understand which of their customers are trading internationally – critical for KYC, AML, and continuous due diligence monitoring, as well as identifying opportunities to support customers and cross-sell products and services.

The risk of trade-based money laundering, regulatory non-compliance, and international sanctions breaches is growing rapidly and becoming ever more complex to navigate. The FullCircl HMRC Import and Export PDE allows banks, insurance businesses, and FSIs to search for a specific line item by description or code, and filter between import and export data to gain a deeper insight into the international trading activities of their commercial customers.

Commenting on this feature release, Shazia Anthony, Senior Product Marketing Manager at FullCircl, commented:

“The HMRC Import and Export data pack is a highly valuable addition to our existing suite of premium data extensions, which includes Adverse Director Histories, CCJs, legal notices, and US and Ireland country specific data. PDE’s form an integral part of FullCircl’s ability to help our users onboard customers faster and keep them for life by simultaneously identifying and mitigating risks sooner and creating opportunities to differentiate in terms of high-value account management through tailored propositions, at scale.”

Bedfont expands its reach in the Middle East by obtaining registration for its Gastro+™ Gastrolyzer®

Bedfont’s breath analysis medical device for helping to detect GI disorders can now be sold in the UAE

Leaders in breath analysis medical devices, Bedfont Scientific Ltd., announced that it has successfully registered its Gastro+™ Gastrolyzer® for sale in the United Arab Emirates.

A big part of UAE culture, food is often used to celebrate and bring people together, however according to the Food Allergy Research & Education, “as many as 15 million people suffer food intolerances” and as many as 11% are lactose intolerant according to a report published by the US Census Bureau International Data Base.

A portable hydrogen monitor, the Gastro+™ works by measuring the amount of hydrogen in a patient’s breath caused by the breakdown of food in the gut. This aids HCP’s in investigating if a patient has any sugar-related food intolerances, such as lactose intolerance, and it can also be used to help detect other gastrointestinal disorders such as SIBO and IBS. Unlike more conventional methods which can take up to two weeks to diagnose, the simple breath test does not require a blood sample and provides instant results.

Jason Smith, Managing Director at Bedfont, comments, “Our Regulatory Affairs department has been working hard on this registration for 9 months, and we’re over the moon to be able to say we can now sell the Gastro+™ into the UAE. It’s going to help a lot of people improve their quality of life, and we looking forward to working more closely with our distributor there, Al Zahrawi Medical Supplies LLC. ”
