Walr officially named a 2022 UK’s Best Workplace™ in Tech

The 2022 UK’s Best Workplaces™ in Tech list was launched this morning by Great Place to Work® UK, recognising Walr among 142 ranked organisations.

The recognition reflects the company’s dedication to creating a rewarding and inspiring working environment. Since it was founded in 2020, Walr has acquired the technology firm QuenchTec and grown the team to 70 employees (and counting).

Emily Whiting, Chief of Staff at Walr, comments, “At Walr, we revel in innovation. We believe the best innovations are born from collaboration with our global colleagues – bringing together different cultures, experiences, and viewpoints to push our collective thinking.”

Walr is a team that equally emphasizes individual accountability and collective success. The team takes time to value each other’s contributions, invest in growth by prioritizing Learning & Development, and celebrate milestones during Monthly Group Meetings. Employee-led initiatives are also encouraged and supported. One such initiative was the beginning of Walr Central. This internal group meets monthly to discuss how Walr can enliven its global culture and improve the employee experience.

Simon Vaarning, Walr CTO, adds, “We truly prioritize our people. We trust our employees to think outside the box for new ways to innovate and propel Walr forwards. How we structure our organization has been key to shaping our culture.”

Employee benefits at Walr include a shadow options scheme that is offered to all employees, allowing them to participate in the future success of the company. The scheme allows all employees, no matter their seniority, to benefit from the growth of Walr in the form of financial reward, by simulating stock ownership.

“I’ve never worked in a company before where the opportunities are so numerous and available. It’s actually encouraged to get involved in things that aren’t ‘your normal job’. If you want to widen your experience by doing something different, Walr lets you do it. No lengthy explanation or requirement ‘to make a business case’ needed.”

As Benedict Gautrey, Managing Director of Great Place to Work® UK, explains: “Now in its fifth year, our 2022 list showcases the largest collection of Best WorkplacesTM in Tech that the UK has ever recognised.

These results are based on what employees working in the technology industry have anonymously reported to us about their workplace experience. In a fast and ever-evolving industry, these organisations are at the forefront of ensuring employees have the right environment to thrive, they are focused on providing positive work experiences, they value diversity, differences and better ways of doing things and, importantly, are investing in effective leadership to ensure continuous growth.

A huge congratulations to Walr for making one of our most prestigious lists.”

ResTech company Walr creates CIO role following ISO 27001 accreditation

Walr, the ResTech company behind the data creation platform, today announces the appointment of Yaron Brenman as CIO. The announcement follows the company’s internationally recognised ISO 27001 accreditation for information security management, also secured this week.

With more than 20 years in the insights industry, Yaron began his career at Confirmit (now Forsta), before moving into numerous leadership roles at other well-regarded research firms.

Previously Walr’s Head of Americas, Brenman’s new role as CIO demonstrates the company’s desire to put quality front and centre. Combining his commercial expertise, deep industry knowledge and eye for the small print, Yaron will be responsible for making sure the company scales quickly and sustainably, without compromising on data security.

This milestone, alongside the ISO 27001 accreditation, signals to customers that their data is being looked after.

Lewis Reeves, Walr Founder and CEO, comments, “This represents a fantastic step forward for the business. As we scale quickly it’s important that we build an extremely secure data company that delivers the highest level of trust and confidence for our customers. Yaron’s industry experience, understanding of technology and attention to detail brings significant value to the business.”

Brenman adds, “Data sits at the very heart of our company. We are dedicated to helping our customers and team curate insights with simplicity, from the secure confines of the Walr Platform. Our ISO 27001 certification proves our commitment to constantly scrutinise our technology, so it is held to the highest security standards. I’m looking forward to improving and refining our processes further as we continue on this trajectory of growth.”

Walr appoints Ben Walton as CCO – an inaugural role for fast-growing res-tech firm

Walr, the res-tech company behind the Walr data creation platform, has appointed Ben Walton as its first chief commercial officer (CCO).

The appointment follows 18 months of rapid expansion – growing to 70 employees and counting since launch in 2020 and acquiring Norwegian tech company, QuenchTec, in 2021. Walr was also officially accredited a Great Place to Work® earlier this month – from the global authority on workplace culture.

Walton joins with over twenty years’ experience in market research, most recently as CCO at System1 Research. Prior to this, Walton spent eight years at GfK where he had global responsibility for the creation and implementation of the go-to-market strategy for GfK’s Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based prescriptive analytics solution.

Walton comments, “The past year and a half have shown Walr’s amazing potential, and I am incredibly excited to be joining at such an early stage, and privileged to be able to continue this journey with the Walr team.

It is a company that truly understands that tech needs to be front and centre, supported by great people; I look forward to helping put the infrastructure in place to allow Walr to fulfil its ambition.”

Lewis Reeves, Walr Co-founder and CEO, comments, “The right CCO isn’t easy to come by but in Ben, we’ve found a breakout star with the credentials and experience we need to support our goals. We’re building a depth of talent and capabilities at Walr and Ben completely shares our vision, as well as having a brilliant grounding in market research and, importantly, the vast potential of res-tech.”

Senior Appointments for Res Tech Firm Walr

Research tech company Walr has appointed former CBRE exec Emily Whiting as Chief of Staff, and former Accenture leader Keziah Wonstolen as a Non-Executive Director.

Walr was set up in the autumn of 2020 by former VIGA (now Savanta) exec Lewis Reeves and Patrick Fraser, who previously worked at Ipsos and Critical Research. The firm offers a bespoke research platform that allows users to create, access, analyse and distribute data all from one location. Last September it acquired fellow res tech company QuenchTec, and since then it has grown headcount from around 30 to ‘approaching 50’, with bases in the UK, the USA and continental Europe.

Whiting joins from CBRE, where she headed up the Change Management vertical for the US within the Global Workplace Consulting practice, leading a team of seven experienced consultants on enterprise transformation projects.

Wonstolen brings fourteen years of experience from Accenture and is currently CEO of Vannin, a company that finds/selects and provides training for Chiefs of Staff in fast-growing client firms (and found Whiting for Walr). At Accenture, Wonstolen focused on high-tech sales transformations as a management consultant before becoming Chief of Staff within the consulting business.

Lewis Reeves, Walr founder and CEO, comments: ‘As we continue to embrace the very best of technology and talent to generate client delight and power our customer’s success, bringing onboard Emily and Keziah represents a huge scope for Walr. The calibre, intelligence and experience they have from such successful organisations will play a pivotal role in aiding Walr to deliver on our ambitious global strategic goals’.
