Surge in demand for Right to Work checks confirms upturn in jobs market

TrustID has seen requests for Right to Work checks increase seven-fold in just four months

TrustID, a leading expert in identity document verification, has seen a spike in demand for Right to Work (RtW) checks – signalling a dramatic upturn in the jobs market. TrustID’s figures show steep growth starting from the beginning of the year. Taking January 2021 as a starting point, demand was up by 65% in February, 190% in March, and over 600% in April – with over seven times the number of requests coming in. Figures for May show the trend is still on the rise with an 820% increase in demand since the beginning of 2021.

TrustID’s figures lend support to a recent BBC news story suggesting that the economy is showing signs of resilience and recovery, noting that unemployment has dropped back down to 4.8%, and employment has risen for the fifth consecutive month.

Tony Machin, CEO at TrustID said: “The biggest increase in demand we’ve seen has come from the leisure and hospitality sector. We support over 100 brands in more than 5000 locations, so we’ve been working seven days-a-week, round-the-clock to help businesses re-open safely, and in compliance with government regulations. As our Right to Work service is available seven days a week, it’s ideal for the many businesses that need to react really quickly to changing circumstances, get people back in employment and reopen their business to the public.”

TrustID has been offering a comprehensive Right to Work service for many years. Employers can submit identity documents electronically through a dedicated app and receive a full Right to Work Report for the candidate, including any restrictions.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, in line with temporary changes to RtW check guidance, TrustID has been offering a remote RtW checking process. By enabling employers to perform reliable background checks while following social distancing rules, TrustID is helping to keep businesses operating and also prepare for re-opening.

Kelly Davis, Talent acquisition partner at Eataly London said: “We’ve been really busy getting ready to open our exciting new London venue. Hiring the right talent is a priority, but we also need to ensure that we’re doing the proper staff checks. TrustID’s Right to Work service is so easy to use that it takes away that issue for us completely. Plus, for every candidate we submit, they provide a definitive answer – so we’re not left with any tricky decisions to make.”

When the requirement to see original documents returns (currently scheduled for 21st June 2021), TrustID’s service will be updated.
