MakeRoom: Modular builds offer a solution to close the affordable housing gap

Modular building manufacturing startup MakeRoom.io announced their flagship product, an Accessory Dwelling Unit that they are calling “The ModelX”.

Available on subscription or ownership, The ModelX by MakeRoom.io allows underutilized land to affordably be turned into high-quality housing without the cost or environmental impact of traditional housing.

Land can be privately or publicly owned with models to suit both needs. Expand your home and build in the garden or use The ModelX to build affordable housing developments on unused land.

The units provide over 225sq ft of space including 9.5ft high ceilings, fridge, stove, washer/dryer, bathroom kitchen, and come complete with a smart home technology stack.

Sustainability and longevity is a priority. MakeRoom modular units are more durable and energy-efficient than traditional homes. They are built using a new construction method that makes them resistant to fire, floods, rot, pests, high winds and include fully integrated smart maintenance technology.

The Model X is the first product in a line of room modules that stack and combine to build any custom building. Multiple modules can be connected to create larger spaces and expand or contract to meet the needs of families.

The MakeRoom system combines factory mass production with eco-friendly high-quality building methods that mean customers get higher quality buildings for less.

Rishi Chowdhury, co-founder at MakeRoom said, “We have spent the last several years doing R&D and understanding modular builds and my partner, Jason Allan Scott, understanding space as a service. Together we went searching for an engineering breakthrough that could rapidly build high-quality affordable smart, sustainable housing. This product has the potential to improve the lives of a billion people.”

MakeRoom makes affordable living luxurious. MakeRoom homes can also be used to take advantage of the Government’s new Self Build scheme, that backs low-deposit mortgages through equity loans on self and custom build homes.

Housing Secretary Rt Hon Robert Jenrick MP said “Building your own home shouldn’t be the preserve of a small number of people, but a mainstream, realistic and affordable option for people across the country. That’s why we are making it easier and more affordable – backed by over £150 million new funding from the government.”

Production will be limited so head over to MakeRoom.io and add your name to the waitlist.

MakeRoom is accepting £100 fully refundable-anytime deposits to hold your place in line. Units will begin shipping in Q2 2022.
