Sisters launch #60for60 Appeal to spread kindness and raise money for Nightingale House Hospice
Sisters Demi and Megan lost their Mum in 2015 – this year, on what would have been their Mum’s 60th birthday, they have launched a campaign to spread acts of kindness and raise money for the Hospice which cared for her. Here, in their own words, they explain the campaign and why it’s so important to them:
In 2015 our mum, Sue Lewis, sadly died in Nightingale Hospice after a 13 month battle with Cancer.
Since then we have participated in a number of fundraising activities in order to raise money for charities that meant a lot to her and us and to keep her present within our own and other’s hearts.
That said, because of recent (apocalyptic) events we haven’t been able to take part in our usual fundraising activities for Nightingale House Hospice. However, the brilliant work that they do to support families doesn’t stop even when the rest of the world seems to and doesn’t come cheap either. So…we’re back again and shaking our online collection pot at you but I figured I should probably do something in return!
#60for60 – November 4th, 2021, should have been our mum’s 60th birthday.
Right about now we should be thinking about what presents we’ll get for Mum, maybe what kind of cake she’ll like and how on earth we’ll sneak the balloons from the car and into the house without her seeing.
Whilst we’ll never get to do any of those nice little things for her again, we can redirect that energy and positivity elsewhere, in her name and memory.
For the last week we have been carrying out (at least!) one small act of kindness per day and will continue to do so for the next 53 days, taking us right up to her birthday. 60 little acts of kindness across 60 days for her 60th birthday. Although it sometimes feels a bit gross to shine a light on the good things you’ve done, we’re hoping that in sharing these gestures they might multiply, with some of you carrying out your own acts of kindness in our mum’s or someone else’s memory – and hopefully we can raise some for money for the Hospice which cared for her too.
Nightingale House offers a wide range of facilities to local people and their families living with life-limiting illness. Patients come from Wrexham, Flintshire, Denbighshire and outlying areas. In 2021 it will cost £3,639,801 million to run the Hospice – this equates to nearly £9,972 per day. It would be great if people could consider donating to our fundraising page.
