A Bellway Durham site manager has been awarded one of the industry’s most prestigious accolades for the second year in a row.
Steven Taylor received a Seal of Excellence at the National House Building Council’s (NHBC) Pride in the Job Awards regional ceremony on 24 September for his work at Conyers Green at Yarm.
The 45-year-old – who has recently moved to oversee construction at Bellway’s new Castlegate development in Skelton-in-Cleveland – is just one of 16 people in the NHBC’s North East region to earn the coveted prize in 2021.
The award is made to a select group of site managers chosen from recipients of the Pride in the Job Quality Awards which were announced earlier this year.
Steven, who has now also won four Pride in the Job awards in total, said: “I am really chuffed to win this award for the second year in a row as it is recognition for all the hard work myself and my team put in at Conyers Green.
“Over the last year or so, we faced a number of challenges caused by the coronavirus pandemic, which included shortages of labour and basic building materials, but we gave it our best and pulled through together without dropping any of our high standards.
“I won the Seal of Excellence last year but, due to the restrictions imposed because of the coronavirus, had to receive the award online. However, this year I was able to go to a fabulous ceremony at the Royal Armouries in Leeds, step up onto the stage in front of my peers and be handed the award.
“I have only been working for Bellway for three years so I must be doing something right to get these awards. I have just started as site manager at the new Castlegate development in Skelton-in-Cleveland and am aiming to make it a hat-trick of wins with my team there.”
Rob Mitchell, Head of Construction for Bellway Durham, said: “Steven is a great site manager and we are lucky to have him on board at Bellway. The Seal of Excellence awards are very prestigious as they recognise the work of the best site managers in the business.
“Over the last year or so, we have faced up to some extremely challenging conditions which were caused by Covid-19. The dedication and diligence of Steven and his team allowed us as a company to overcome these hurdles and to continue to deliver high-quality homes and a five-star service.”
Bellway is delivering 168 homes for private sale at Conyers Green, with 89 properties in phase one of the development, off Green Lane, and 79 in phase two.
There are currently four and five-bedroom homes available at Conyers Green with prices starting at £298,995.
Meanwhile, at Castlegate in Skelton-in-Cleveland, Bellway is building 141 homes, featuring a mix of three and four-bedroom properties, which form the final part of a wider development. Work has started on site and it is hoped that homes will be released for sale before the end of the year.
