IT maintenance firm Smart Capital Technology boosts its growth with two major appointments
TWO new additions to the talent at IT maintenance company Smart Capital Technology (SCT) will help ignite its growth plans, says chief executive Andy Morgan.
New sales and marketing director Steve Briant joins the Reading, Berkshire, company with 20 years’ experience in IT and telecoms, most recently at M247, Rackspace and Alternative Networks. He lives in West Sussex so will divide his time between the Reading office and out meeting partners.
“I’m really excited to be part of the next phase of the SCT growth story,” he said.
“We are already a trusted partner to some of the largest technology solution providers in the world and there is a huge opportunity to develop these relationships even further as we broaden our service offerings.
“As we invest in sales and marketing and the wider business we will also put even greater emphasis on acquiring new partners both in the UK and in Europe.”
Chris Farrell joins as finance director after spending seven years as financial controller at US data firm iRI, where he was responsible for financial control, governance and insight for its UK business.
The proud Scot has a background in the tech sector, including at Integrity Software, as well as in the health, FMCG, PS and data/marketing space. He said: “For someone working in finance, it’s good to get experience across multiple industries to differentiate yourself.”
His brief will be to support Mr Morgan in transitioning the finance team after its management buyout earlier this year, introducing a streamlined, automated finance system, honing SCT’s cash flow and developing business information for the board and the rest of the business.
The 20-year-old firm, which posted a turnover in excess of £10 million in the last financial year, can provide parts and engineers to replace and repair broken business-critical networks to IT suppliers who support an extensive range of organisations – from household brands to industrial businesses – who need connectivity to networks or servers.
Its 80 staff and over 25,000 parts stored in more than 40 locations across the UK, Europe and the US enables SCT to guarantee delivery of replacement parts in as little as two hours.
Said Mr Farrell, who regularly travels to Glasgow to watch his beloved Celtic, said: “My main focus is to support Andy in steering this business to its potential, build in the changes needed for growth and develop a forward-looking finance team and drive strategic growth.
“I want to help SCT’s development by way of organic growth, acquisitive growth and European expansion. The business is at a crucial period in that upward curve and that is why I wanted to be involved.”
Mr Morgan said: “Attracting people of this calibre shows that SCT’s reputation is growing as quickly as our sales performance and I’m delighted to welcome Chris and Steve on board.
“They have exactly the kind of experience, drive and vision we will need as we gear up for the next phase of our expansion. It’s a really exciting time to be at SCT and I’m sure there will be many more opportunities here in the near future.”
