Hacked: Strategic communications consultancy helps top business leaders mitigate cyber attacks
Leading strategic communications consultancy, Robots & Humans, has helped top UK business leaders understand how to mitigate a cyber security attack in its first roundtable event, titled ‘Hacked’.
Featuring insights from a former senior member of a PLC that suffered a very public cyber-attack, the Hacked event welcomed an exclusive group of 20 business leaders from some of the UK’s largest organisations.
Here, business leaders had the opportunity to share challenges and anecdotes, while gaining insight into top misconceptions of cyber security. This included an overview of the four stages of a cyber security attack – Motivation, Attack, Mobilisation, Resolution – together with the vital role strategic communications plays in aiding business recovery.
Ian Thatcher, Co-Founder and Managing Director of Robots & Humans, explained: “We all have a plan until we get punched in the face and that’s exactly what happens all too often with cyber security attacks. In the last 12 months, 85% of UK businesses have reported being attacked, yet – to quote Bruce Schneier – “if you think technology is going to solve security problems, you don’t understand technology or the problems.”
The purpose of the Hacked event was to highlight exactly this, and to help business leaders understand the chronology of an attack, the impact on operations, and the public fear and misperception that builds as a result. Ultimately, while there is a strong focus on technology, no one really considers the importance of strategic communications – yet getting this right can truly be make or break for any organisation. Overall, we received extremely positive feedback from those who attended the event and now look forward to uniting business leaders in discussing other strategic challenges in the coming weeks.”
