Housebuilder donates sensory garden to Bootle nursery

Leading North West housebuilder Bellway has donated £250 to Greenacre Community Nursery School in Bootle for a sensory garden.

The nursery, which boasts extensive natural grounds and is often described as ‘an oasis in the heart of Bootle’, was keen to introduce the sensory garden as it offers the children the opportunity to learn through play outdoors.

Bellway’s monetary donation enabled the nursery to purchase all the necessary materials for the sensory garden, with some children helping with the set up; painting certain elements and areas in bright colours.

Now complete and in full use, the children love exploring the textures, colours and smells of the sensory garden, as well as being able to interact and learn new things.

Cathy Earley, Headteacher at Greenacre Community Nursery School, says: “We are very grateful to Bellway for their generous donation which has enabled us to provide our younger children with a sensory garden.

“This has been a great asset for the staff to show the children how to plant various herbs and vegetables. The children would then have a go at the planting themselves.  The smell from the herbs is a sensory exploration for the children in the nursery who may well not have seen or smelt things like this before, and also watching and nurturing the herbs and vegetables growing, again something they may not have seen before.”

Jenny Bell, sales director at Bellway North West, adds: “We are committed to supporting the local community and really liked the idea of providing a sensory garden to Greenacre Community Nursery School.  We are thrilled the children enjoy using it and are experiencing new things too.”
