Alibaba Cloud Showcases Wuying Cloudbook at Apsara Conference

Supported by dedicated Wuying Architecture, Wuying Cloudbook provides enhanced security, flexibility and collaboration for the workplace in the digital age

Alibaba Cloud, the digital technology and intelligence backbone of Alibaba Group, will be showcasing new additions to its cloud computer offering at its Apsara Conference. The Wuying Cloudbook, empowered by Wuying Architecture, is designed to provide enterprises with unlimited computing power while helping them enhance data security, improve cost efficiency and facilitate collaboration in increasingly diverse hybrid office settings.

Drawing on the high levels of security, scalability and compatibility that characterise the cloud, the Wuying Cloudbook allows users to fully leverage the power of cloud computing while minimising the workload for local devices. Users can scale computing power and storage up or down to meet their demands as and when they need, getting rid of the capacity restrictions of running large-scale software, such as video-rendering software, and enjoying a real-time interactive experience with low latency and high-quality images.

Wuying Cloudbook supports secure storage and transmission of massive volumes of organisational resources by centralising and managing them in the cloud. It overcomes typical security challenges in enterprise environments, such as data loss and local device vulnerabilities, while allowing users to access organisational resources anytime, anywhere.

Wuying Cloudbook also extends the boundaries of collaboration, allowing users to run multiple operating systems, including Windows, Linux, or Android on it simultaneously. As the software is also deployed and running in the cloud, there is no need to download and install software on local devices, minimising the requirement for storage capacity and the battery consumption of local devices. Wuying Cloudbook is an ideal choice for new ways of working, such as remote working, outsourcing, and collaboration between teams in different locations.

The scalability, security and flexibility of Wuying Cloudbook is supported by Alibaba Cloud’s Wuying Architecture, which is designed to optimise workload collaboration between cloud and local devices. The industry-leading architecture is compatible with devices ranging from laptops and tablets to any hardware that demands robust computing power. Leveraging this architecture, users can access unlimited computing power and storage capacity in any computing terminal.

“Wuying Architecture is a powerful extension and expansion of the workplace. It helps enterprises to enhance flexibility and improve operational efficiency. Taking advantage of cloud-based data security capabilities and tools, Wuying provides additional assurance to safeguarding corporate information security,” said Jiangwei JIANG, Senior Researcher and General Manager of Infrastructure Products, Alibaba Cloud Intelligence. “Thanks to its compatibility, Wuying Architecture brings the benefits of cloud computing to hardware brands, software vendors and enterprises, as well as individual users.”

The Wuying Cloudbook, will be demonstrated at the exhibition area at Alibaba Cloud’s Apsara Conference, features an ultra-thin body just 13.9mm deep and a 14-inch touch- 2 screen. An unboxing video, giving a preview of the device, is available here. With this new addition, Alibaba Cloud now offers cloud computing in the form of a card, a box, an all-in-one PC, a laptop and a Desktop-as-a Service (DaaS) application.

Customer experiences with Wuying: Automotive and Education

In China, IM Motors, an intelligent electric vehicle company, is the first in the automobile industry to adopt Wuying in product design. At the R&D stage, teams in different locations need to collaborate closely. Using Wuying, the design documents can be accessed by multiple teams in multiple locations.

“The automobile industry traditionally relied heavily on offline collaboration, as large-scale workstations were necessary for many work processes. Wuying is a dream come true for our sector. Not only does it offer the necessary computing power to support the intense workload, but it also eases our anxiety around data security when transmitting and sharing confidential design files, allowing us to focus our attention on the design itself,” said Jiao XIANG, Executive Director of Intelligence Research Center, IM Motors.

East China Normal University is one of the early adopters of Wuying in education. The cloud computer has replaced traditional server rooms in research projects, allowing students to work seamlessly on their projects when they move from laboratories to classrooms and dormitories, as the research data has been centralised in the cloud. Research efficiency has also been greatly improved by running data analytics on the cloud.

“This mobile research mode offered by Wuying has proven to be very valuable for professors and students alike. On-the-cloud laboratories provide unlimited computing power, overcoming the limitations of latency and bandwidth in a localised setting. In addition, it’s a powerful, 24/7 service, which helps us obtain research results in a much shorter time,” said Wei WANG, professor of the School of Data Science and Engineering, East China Normal University.

Apsara Conference opens tomorrow

As well as showcasing the Wuying Cloudbook, Alibaba Cloud’s annual Apsara Conference, which opens on November 3 in Hangzhou and runs until November 5, will shed light on the tech leader’s business strategy, products and partnerships.

Nutanix Accelerates Kubernetes Adoption in the Enterprise

Nutanix has announced new features in its Cloud Platform to accelerate the adoption of Kubernetes running both at scale and cost-effectively. The company announced broad support for leading Kubernetes container platforms, built-in infrastructure as code capabilities, and enhanced data services for modern applications. These new features allow DevOps teams to accelerate application delivery with the performance, governance, and flexibility of the Nutanix Cloud Platform, while allowing customers to maintain control of their IT operating costs.

“Kubernetes deployments are inherently dynamic and challenging to manage at scale,” said Thomas Cornely, SVP, Product Management, Nutanix. “Running Kubernetes container platforms cost-effectively at large scale requires developer-ready infrastructure that seamlessly adapts to changing requirements. Our expertise in simplifying infrastructure management while optimising resourcesー both on-premises and in the public cloudーis now being applied to help enterprises adopt Kubernetes more quickly. The Nutanix Cloud Platform now supports a broad choice of Kubernetes container platforms, provides integrated data services for modern applications, and enables developers to provision Infrastructure as Code.”

According to Gartner, by 2027, 25% of all enterprise applications will run in containers, an increase from fewer than 10% in 2021. This is a significant challenge for many given most Kubernetes solutions are not meant to support enterprise scale, even less can do so in a manner that is cost effective. The Nutanix Cloud Platform enables enterprises to run Kubernetes in a software-defined infrastructure environment that can linearly scale. Additionally, whether running Kubernetes on-premises or in the public cloud, Nutanix delivers a cost-effective solution that can help lower total cost of ownership by up to 53% when compared to other native cloud deployment solutions.

New capabilities, including broad support for leading Kubernetes container platforms, built-in infrastructure as code capabilities, and enhanced data services, make Nutanix an even stronger proposition for enterprises looking to deploy Kubernetes at scale. Specifically, new enhancements include:

  • Broad Kubernetes Ecosystem:The Nutanix Cloud Platform, with the built-in AHV hypervisor, now supports most leading Kubernetes container platforms with the addition of Amazon EKS-A. This builds on a large ecosystem including Red Hat OpenShift, SUSE Rancher, as well as Google Anthos, and Microsoft Azure Arc for edge deployments, along with the native Nutanix Kubernetes, Nutanix Kubernetes Engine (NKE).

  • Built-In Infrastructure as Code Operating Model:Nutanix also announced an updated API family along with its SDKs in Java, JS, Go and Python, currently under development. This will enable automation at scale and consistent operations regardless of locationーin the datacentre, on the public cloud, or at edgeーboth of key importance to enterprises. Additionally, when combined with Red Hat Ansible Certified Content or the Nutanix Terraform provider, a DevOps methodology can be brought to infrastructure through automation leveraging Infrastructure as Code.
  • Strengthened Data Services for Modern Applications: Nutanix Cloud Platform’s web-scale architecture enables customers to start small and scale to multi-PB sized deployments as application needs grow. It is the only platform to unify delivery of integrated data services with file, object, and now adding database services on the same platform for Kubernetes-based applications. Today Nutanix launched Nutanix Database Service Operator for Kubernetes, which enables developers to quickly and easily provision and attach databases to their application stacks directly from development environments. The open source operator is available via artifacthub.io as well as by direct download at GitHub. Additionally, Nutanix Objects now supports a reference implementation of Container Object Storage Interface (COSI) for ease of orchestration and self-service provisioning. It also adds support for observability using Prometheus. Lastly, Objects is now validated with modern analytics applications including Presto, Dremio, and Vertica, along with Confluent Kafka to efficiently enable large-scale data pipelines often used in real-time streaming applications.

These new features build on the Nutanix Cloud Platform’s ability to handle the dynamic demands of Kubernetes applications at scale. With the Nutanix hyperconverged infrastructure, performance and capacity scale linearly, resilience is delivered from the ground up with self-healing nodes, and persistent storage is natively integrated. Additionally, the Nutanix Cloud Platform can help deliver cost efficiencies by eliminating unused compute and storage resources. For customers looking at cloud integrations, the same Nutanix value is delivered across hybrid multicloud endpoints with full license portability across edge, datacentre, service provider, and hyperscaler points of presence.

“When we decided to bring the core platform for our solutions in-house, we decided to take a modular containerised approach to give us the desired flexibility and simplify management by maintaining customisation as configurations,” said Larry McClanahan, Chief Product Officer, Nymbus. “Our partnership with Red Hat and Nutanix gives us the flexibility to innovate, the speed to get to market fast, and the tremendous scalability to support ongoing growth. We’re thrilled that we can better help our customers succeed in the digital banking market with unique solutions.”

“Container development platforms promise faster application development speed, but will only be deployed by organisations who can maintain compliance, day 2 operations, and cost management control at scale,” said Paul Nashawaty, Senior Analyst at ESG. “Nutanix offers a compelling path to speed the deployment of modern applications at scale and in a cost-effective manner, with full choice of Kubernetes container development environments and cloud endpoints.”

WSO2 Launches WSO2 Private CIAM Cloud to Deliver Best-in-Class CIAM Support for Both B2B and B2C

WSO2 also delivers stronger analytics, typing biometric authentication, multi-attribute login, and added device support with today’s releases of WSO2 Identity Server 6.0 and WSO2 Private CIAM Cloud

As organisations expand their online presence, they are exploring new ways to reach more customers through innovative partnerships. This is raising the stakes for enterprises to ensure a secure, frictionless customer experience (CX)—whether reaching these customers via business-to-consumer (B2C) or business-to-business (B2B) models. The new WSO2 Private CIAM Cloud, available today, addresses these demands with customer identity and access management (CIAM) functionality that goes beyond B2C to offer the industry’s most extensive CIAM support for B2B scenarios.

WSO2 Private CIAM Cloud is part of WSO2’s CIAM suite, which also includes the industry-leading, open-source WSO2 Identity Server software that manages more than 1 billion identities each year. WSO2 Private CIAM Cloud combines the proven B2C capabilities of the WSO2 CIAM suite with new B2B organisation management functionality, which uniquely enables organisations to create multiple levels of B2B organisational hierarchies and lets administrators of each organisation configure their own policies and processes.

WSO2 also introduced WSO2 Identity Server 6.0 today. Both the newest release of WSO2 Identity Server and the new WSO2 Private CIAM Cloud build on the current WSO2 CIAM suite to add significant new features. These include integration with third-party analytics tools, integration with TypingDNA for authentication based on typing biometrics, multi-attribute log-in support to give users more sign-in options, and device flow support to bring CIAM to a broader range of devices.

“More than a quarter of our CIAM customer base has started using WSO2 Identity Server for B2B, which gave us valuable real-world insights into how to support enterprises’ increasingly sophisticated market requirements with our new WSO2 Private CIAM Cloud,” said Geethika Cooray, vice president and general manager of identity and access management at WSO2. “With our expanded WSO2 CIAM suite, our customers have greater flexibility than ever to support their B2B and B2C scenarios, leverage business customers and partners to scale business models, broaden their market reach, and speed time to market—all while easily adapting their CX for distinct audiences to optimise user engagement.”

Recent research undertaken by WSO2 in the United Kingdom and Ireland (UK&I) examined how organisations are using CIAM platforms to deliver a more personalised experience. It found that 80% of respondents are using or planning to use a single platform for employees, partners, and suppliers as well as their customers.

“Organisations recognise that outside of the work environment, business users are also consumers who increasingly expect their digital experiences to be of the same high quality whether at home or at work. With WSO2 Private CIAM Cloud, we are closing the gap and enabling enterprises to bring a secure, frictionless experience to consumers and business users, alike,” said Ricardo Diniz, vice president and general manager for UK&I and Southern Europe.

Extending CIAM from B2C to B2B

“In 2021, Gartner observed an increase in inquiries about B2B, which surpassed B2C CIAM by 25%,” according to the Gartner IAM Leaders’ Guide to Access Management1.

WSO2 Private CIAM Cloud supports the growing demand to extend CIAM from B2C to B2B by building on the industry-leading functionality already in use with WSO2 Identity Server, the uniquely extensible, API-driven, cloud native product that enables developers to harness the power of CIAM without being security experts. It incorporates the ability to federate, authenticate and manage identities; bridge across heterogeneous identity protocols; and secure access to web and mobile applications along with API-based endpoints.

Additionally, WSO2 Private CIAM Cloud goes beyond WSO2 Identity Server 6.0 to provide robust support for B2B business models through the new B2B organisation management feature. Unlike other CIAM products that are limited to simple organisation management, the B2B organisation management handles complex nesting, which gives enterprises the flexibility to:

  • Define as many organisations and multiple levels of sub-organisations as needed to represent large enterprise customers and their hierarchical organisation structures, each of which get their own secure space for managing user identities and their access privileges.
  • Define multi-level delegated administration policies for organisations, so they can manage their own user identities and access privileges.
  • Enable each organisation to manage its own role-based access controls to restrict access to its resources.
  • Define organisations for intermediaries in distribution channels, such as resellers and distributors, and allow them to define their own security policies and operational workflows for customer onboarding, log-in, branding, and adaptive authentication to manage their enterprise customers.

“The needs of partners are somewhat distinct from consumers but equally important to the success of organisations already down the road in their digital transformation journeys,” said Jay Bretzmann, vice president of identity research at IDC. “Built with ears to the development ground, WSO2 Private CIAM Cloud should help organisations delight partners in the same way it has enriched consumer user experiences, going beyond simple access to provide greater management capabilities and automation options.”

Enhancing Users’ Experiences

WSO2 Identity Server 6.0 and WSO2 Private CIAM Cloud both expand upon the WSO2 CIAM platform by adding a number of features aimed at enhancing the experiences of enterprises and their customers.

Greater analytics functionality for enterprise users. Both offerings include pre-configured integration with Elasticsearch, Logstash and Kibana (ELK) based analytics. Additionally, they can be integrated with other third-party analytics tools.

Typing biometric authentication via TypingDNA. Integration with TypingDNA enables organisations to leverage typing biometrics and offer customers seamless, user-friendly, risk-based authentication (RBA) that enhances security and fraud detection.

Multi-attribute login support. Enterprise can now make it easier and more convenient for users to sign into applications by letting them choose which attribute they want to use as their primary identifier, such as username, email address, or phone number.

Device flow support. The new feature expands the range of devices an organisation can effectively use within the overall CX solution to include devices with limited input capabilities, such as smartphones and smart TVs.
