Iskratel introduces energy-efficiency labelling, calls for industry-wide adoption

The initiative is the “missing piece of the jigsaw” to unlocking a greener Europe and reducing operators’ carbon footprints

Vienna, Austria, 23 May 2022 – Committed to open and transparent communication about the energy consumption of its equipment, Iskratel has started using energy-efficiency labels for all of its new broadband products. According to Iskratel, the labels will improve credibility and comparability, and enable operators to make informed decisions when selecting products that reduce their environmental impact.

The labels state the product’s power consumption and the level of compliance with the EU Code of Conduct on Energy Consumption of Broadband Equipment, provided as a percentage of the limit set by the Code of Conduct. Similar in design to those used for energy classes of domestic appliances, the labels will be easy to read and understand for operators and end-users alike.

“To make environmentally responsible decisions, operators need credible and comparable figures about power consumption of the equipment they procure and use,” said Matjaž Pogacnik, Strategy Consultant at Iskratel. “In meeting operator needs, equipment vendors must be aware of their responsibility in reducing their overall carbon footprint throughout the product lifecycle.”

Issued by the European Commission’s Joint Research Centre, the Code of Conduct outlines the limits of power consumption of broadband equipment and specifies the test methodology. The Code of Conduct is the framework for credible and comparable power consumption figures. As a signatory of the code, Iskratel is committed to ensuring that its broadband-access equipment complies with the strict limits on power consumption imposed by the code, and clearly informs customers and users about their usage.

“The introduction of labels will provide the missing piece of the jigsaw in helping operators and end-users correctly estimate the carbon footprint that results from the specific mix of resources needed to generate electricity,” added Pogacnik. “We call upon the whole industry to join Iskratel’s initiative and take a positive step towards a greener Europe with an industry-wide adoption of Code of Conduct compliancy labelling.”

Pogacnik will call for industry-wide support during his speech on 25 May at the annual FTTH Conference in Vienna, from 23 to 25 May 2022. Pogacnik and other Iskratel experts will be on hand at stand G24, ready to provide more information about the initiative and Iskratel’s latest broadband solutions.

Iskratel delivers supreme Wi-Fi 6 to Zeop with new home gateways

Duo of home gateways introduced for unbeatable Wi-Fi 6 experience, with two more to be unveiled in June

Kranj, Slovenia, May 12, 2022: Iskratel has today announced that its two latest home gateways have been successfully tested by several operators, as they strive to provide a premium Wi-Fi 6 experience. This includes its Innbox G92 that has been successfully trialled and tested by Zeop at La Réunion.

The latest additions to Iskratel’s Customer-Premises Equipment (CPE) portfolio; the Innbox G92 and Innbox E92 have been unveiled as premium Wi-Fi 6 solutions for remote connectivity. Each provides unique features to meet specific customer requirements. Innbox G92 is a GPON home gateway with 2×2 Wi-Fi 6 and EasyMesh™ compliant Wi-Fi controller and integrated fibre-termination unit (FTU) that reduces operational expenditure. Innbox E92 is an Ethernet home gateway, and whilst it is functionally identical to Innbox G92, it contains a Gigabit Ethernet (GE) uplink that makes it ideal for dual-box XGS-PON setups.

“As the leading fibre network provider across La Reunion, claiming the number one placed position in best fixed-access performance for the last 5 years concurrently, Zeop will begin the deployment of advanced GPON home gateways at the end of May,” said Wilfried Gaillard, CTO at Zeop. “We continually strive to deliver the most innovative technology and the best experience for our users, with this rollout bringing highly reliable connectivity and the best Wi-Fi 6 to our clients.”

After successful trials of Innbox G92, Zeop will begin the deployment of advanced GPON home gateways in a few months. To ensure a bespoke customer experience, Zeop will select from the high-end Innbox G92 or the top-of-the-line Innbox G94 to meet its unique needs.

“We are delighted to see our range of new home gateways delivering an unbeatable Wi-Fi 6 experience for those operators that have already tested our products,” said Iskratel Business Development Director Mitja Golja. “Our products provide unrivalled high-speed Wi-Fi coverage inside the home and allows operators to optimise Total Cost of Ownership.”

Completing the new line-up are Innbox G94 and Innbox E94, the new additions to Iskratel’s CPE portfolio that deliver top-of-the line Wi-Fi 6 for the most demanding and advanced users. Innbox G94 is a GPON home gateway with 4×4 Wi-Fi 6, EasyMesh™ compliant Wi-Fi controller, 2.5GE LAN and integrated FTU. Innbox E94 is its Ethernet counterpart; functionally identical, yet with a 2.5GE uplink, it is ideal in dual-box XGS-PON setups. Designed to effortlessly integrate into any setup, this new range allows users to easily understand and select products based on their individual requirements.

Innbox G92 and Innbox E92 are generally available already, with Innbox G94 and Innbox E94 set to be released in June.

Iskratel expands into the UK market to deliver FTTH connectivity to underserved regions

Continuing its expansion across Western Europe, Iskratel has opened a branch in the UK

Liverpool, UK, and Kranj, Slovenia, 22 March 2022 – Iskratel, a Slovenia-headquartered ICT provider, is intensifying its activities in Western Europe and is now offering its innovative Fibre-To-The-Home (FTTH) solutions from a newly opened branch in the UK.

As one of the major ICT players in the EU, Iskratel is already present in Western European countries such as Germany, Spain, France and Belgium. Alongside the UK, these countries have considerable potential for fibre-based broadband expansion and are expected to experience a 3- to 4-digit growth of FTTH deployments, especially in rural areas.

Iskratel’s UK Key Account Manager Simon Higgins, a sales professional with extensive experience and in-depth knowledge of the UK market will head up the regional branch and oversee operations. Higgins said: “We are excited to bring our complete end-to-end fibre access solutions to the UK, and the recent expansion in the city of Liverpool will bring added flexibility and regional support for operators to efficiently roll-out ultra-fast connectivity in underserved areas of the UK.”

In the UK, heavy investment in FTTH connectivity is promoted by its national high-speed broadband plan accompanied by financial support from the Government, local authorities, cooperatives and private sources. According to the UK Parliament, approximately 95% of UK premises have a superfast broadband connection available.

Well positioned to address the needs of the UK market with highly scalable XGS-PON/GPON OLTs and a range of ONTs, Iskratel has extensive expertise and experience in deploying open-access FTTH networks in rural and underserved areas. This includes successfully delivering GPON/XGS-PON connectivity as part of the Slovenian-Croatian RUNE (Rural Network) Project, and deploying a 10-gigabit fibre-optic network to thousands of households in Belgium in collaboration with the Ulysse Group.

Last year, Iskratel began its network expansion programme with Ukrtelecom, which aimed to connect more than one million people across Ukraine with fibre connectivity. Additionally, Iskratel also achieved the world’s highest GPON deployment, totalling more than 4,000 metres above sea level in Bolivia.

Higgins added: “As a leading European provider, Iskratel’s solutions are the perfect fit to meet the needs of Tier-2 operators with our expansive and customisable range of FTTH technology that includes OLTs, ONTs and passive equipment. With our Research and Development and manufacturing centres across Europe, Iskratel will help unlock future growth for operators across the UK.”

UK Key Account Manager Simon Higgins will be available for further insight and discussion on the opportunities the expansion will bring at Channel Live 2022, the UK’s largest ICT Channel exhibition and conference, taking place on 30th to 31st March 2022 in Birmingham, England.
