Two thirds of homes sold as construction work gathers pace in Havant

Construction work is progressing well at a development in Havant, where a third of the homes have now been completed and two thirds have been sold.

Bellway Wessex is building 175 homes at Brookvale, off Bartons Road, with work set to come to an end in March next year.

More than 50 families have already moved into the development and a total of 81 of the 122 private homes being provided at the development have been sold so far. The remaining homes available to buy include a mix of three and four-bedroom designs, while the two-bedroom Ash and four-bedroom Aspen are set to be released for sale later this year.

The development will also deliver 53 affordable homes for local people, as well as a children’s play area and landscaped open space.

Kim Caldwell, Sales Director for Bellway Wessex, said: “It has been an extremely successful period at Brookvale due to the high level of interest we have seen over the last few months and it’s pleasing to see that we have passed another milestone at the development.

“Following the completion of the first property in March of last year we saw particular demand from first-time buyers who used the Help to Buy scheme to take their first steps on the property ladder.

“Then, after the extension of the Stamp Duty holiday in March, we saw a considerable rise in the uptake of four-bedroom properties from families taking advantage of the huge savings on offer.

“The final homes to be released for sale will be staggered throughout the remainder of this year.

“Buyers here are attracted to the development’s rural setting and easy access to Portsmouth and Chichester via the A27, so we do not expect the homes to stay available for long.”

The Government-backed Help to Buy scheme enables home-hunters to purchase a new-build home up to the value of £437,600 in the South East of England with a five per cent deposit and a 75 per cent mortgage. The remaining 20 per cent is provided in the form of an equity loan, which is interest free for the first five years of home ownership.

The Stamp Duty holiday has been extended until 30 June for property purchases up to £500,000, with a tapering period being introduced from 1 July until the end of September when the stamp duty threshold is reduced to the first £250,000 of the property’s value.

There’s currently a range of three and four-bedroom houses for sale at Brookvale, with prices starting from £319,995.
