KLM Royal Dutch Airlines select STG Aerospaces’ next generation saf-Tglo®

Cwmbran-headquartered aerospace emergency exit marking and cabin lighting systems provider STG Aerospace, has worked together with KLM Airlines to upgrade their aircraft with the latest generation of saf-Tglo® (SSUL-X) emergency floor path marking system.

This new collaboration with the flag carrier airline of the Netherlands, KLM, marks a key moment for STG as they deliver their latest generation of saf-Tglo® to this prestigious launch customer. The emergency exit system is the lightest and narrowest on the market, covers the widest CMF palette available and, for the first time, offers full edge to edge colour, providing a significant step up in aesthetics over all previous generations.

KLM has selected STG’s unique (18mm) solution in daylight blue colour to complement their cabin design and branding. They have selected traditional green glow, rather than STG’s patented blue glow colour to keep consistency across their fleet. The first aircraft are scheduled to be installed in the autumn.

The saf-Tglo® (SSUL-X) family of emergency floor path marking systems is available in all industry standard widths and, as an industry first, from STG Aerospace, approved under a single multi-model STC. For airlines with mixed fleets, such as KLM, this single multi-model STC makes it easy to add SSUL-X to different aircraft models within their fleet, with minimum impact on airline engineering teams.

For KLM, this project wasn’t just about replacing what they had, it was part of a broader cabin upgrade, meaning timing of product availability becomes key. STG prides itself on providing exceptional end-to-end customer engagement & service which is essential when supporting customers with such a programme.

Speaking about the collaboration with KLM, Martin Gaffney, Commercial Director, said, “It’s great to see that KLM airlines selected our latest 18mm saf-Tglo® (SSUL-X) for their aircraft. Its narrow design enables it to blend seamlessly within a cabin interior.

“Our team have worked collaboratively with the engineering and team at KLM to fulfil the airlines wishes and now working closely to bring our product to support the safety of their passengers & crew.

Following a turbulent year for the industry, our focus now is very much on enhancing our position and capability within the market and driving new growth.”

STG has its state-of-the-art facility at its headquarters in South Wales and is complemented by international facilities in Miami and Hamburg, along with hubs throughout the world.

The business is a proud exhibitor and sponsor of this year’s Aircraft Interiors Expo (AIX) Virtual. In September, STG will feature their new products in the ADS Digital Cabin, giving attendees a realistic and unique preview of their latest innovations. This is an incredibly important event given the current challenges faced by the industry and STG is proud to lend its support.
