Skin clinic named best in Wales following expansion, investment and charity campaign

PURE Perfection Clinic added another prestigious accolade to its long list of titles at a national prizegiving.

The trailblazing business, based in Rossett near Wrexham, was named Best Clinic Midlands and Wales at the Aesthetics Awards, hosted by TV personality Vernon Kay.

Director Sara Cheeney and her seven-strong workforce were also commended for Clinic Team of the Year at the ceremony, held at London’s Grosvenor House.

Sara, an ambassador for the world-famous Hydrafacial aesthetic treatment and UK trainer and key opinion leader for Zo Skin Health, said they were “completely shocked” to receive the trophy.

“We were all stunned when they called out our name, it took us a few moments to process before we went up to collect the award!” she added.

“Pure Perfection has won several prizes over the years but none bigger than this, so we are absolutely thrilled.

“It’s testament to the hard work and dedication of all our team, who have worked tirelessly over the last year to maintain our high standards following a challenging time for the industry post-Covid.

“We ourselves have gone from strength to strength and being named best in the country reflects that, so we are privileged and thankful to the judges, and our loyal customers, for their support.”

The good news followed a period of investment at the Chester Road site, which included redevelopment of the premises, a revamped treatment room and expansion, with new faces joining in past months.

The mum-of-two, from Llangollen, has also been busy as one of the founding members of the Star Box campaign for the charity Awyr Las, a care package for patients using the Shooting Star Unit at Wrexham Maelor Hospital.

The Unit cared for her when she was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2016 and she says the appeal is “a form of therapy”, an outlet to give back and helping others on their “cancer journey”.

Having been put into a ‘false menopause’ while undergoing treatment for the condition, she wants to help more people in that position, having seen a surge in demand for support in past years.

As NHS waiting lists for skin treatments continue to rise, Clinic Manager Marianne Burrell says they aim to meet rising demand by continuing to invest in state-of-the-art technology unavailable elsewhere in the region, including CO2 and vascular lasers.

“We will keep raising the benchmark for aesthetics in Wales and beyond, which means introducing the best machinery and training,” she said.

“The clinic has experienced an increase in the number of men visiting for a wide range of services we offer, which is fantastic to see, and there will be new health treatments for women, which will be rolled out this year.

“We have also seen a rise in acne treatments and the results have been very positive, producing lasting results for patients, while also adapting our clinical pathway to meet the holistic needs of all our customers.”

Marianne added: “There is a lot happening and Pure Perfection continues to grow; to win such a huge award gives us confidence we are moving in the right direction, and that the best is yet to come.”

The Aesthetics Awards are the most prestigious and longest-standing awards ceremony in the UK medical aesthetics industry. striving to promote best practice, safety, efficacy, and recognise the top leaders in the field.

With more than 400 entries and 950 guests attending, the evening brings together the very best in aesthetic medicine.

Skin clinic to launch cutting-edge C02 laser tech ahead of further expansion this summer

AN ESTEEMED skin clinic has unveiled innovative new technology ahead of further expansion.

Pure Perfection Clinic, based in Rossett, near Wrexham and Chester, has made “significant investment” in cutting-edge C02 laser machinery and treatments that will be demonstrated at a launch event this Thursday (June 15).

The award-winning business is one of a select few in the UK to introduce the cutting-edge Secret Pro skin resurfacing device having brought in unique thread lift and Morpheus8 treatments during lockdown.

Owner Sara Cheeney, from Llangollen, says a revamped website – including an online patient and e-commerce portal – boosted client numbers and led to her carrying out more coaching and training sessions UK-wide as an ambassador for the world-famous Hydrafacial, Morpheus 8 and Zo Skin Health brands.

As NHS waiting lists for skin treatments continue to rise, she aims to meet demand by taking on more staff and continuing to invest in state-of-the-art technology.

“That’s why we have continued to improve and grow, introducing the revolutionary CO2 skin resurfacing machinery and medical grade red vein facial treatments,” said Sara.

“The CO2 laser treatment is one of the most advanced skin rejuvenation processes available and is known for being effective in treating both superficial and deep skin problems, such as acne scarring, wrinkles and pigmentation, as well as deep lines.

“It gets rid of imperfections like an eraser, resurfacing and tightening the skin to leave patients feeling fresh, and healthier.”

She added: “We have also invested in another medical grade device that targets pigmentation, rosacea, skin tags, blemishes, scarring and much more, and have plans to keep raising the bar for ourselves and the industry.

“A private vascular surgery service is also now available on-site and we have further plans for the months ahead.”

Sara is determined they will remain ahead of the curve in both their practices and professionalism – given a rise in the number of unlicensed and untrained individuals carrying out non-surgical cosmetic procedures – and has big plans for the months ahead.

“We are a clinic that leads in this sector and try to always be at the forefront of advances in technology, giving patients peace of mind and the knowledge their health and wellbeing is our priority,” said Sara, a multiple winner of numerous accolades, including Aesthetic Nurse of the Year.

“With more and more unlicensed aesthetic clinics and untrained individuals popping up all the time, it is vital people do their homework and know exactly what they are paying for.

“They must choose a clinic that is registered with Health Inspectorate Wales or the Care Quality Commission and run by a medical professional.”

She added: “We often get new patients who turn up at clinic having been to see someone who has ‘botched’ a simple procedure – such as Botox, chemical peels, lasers and dermal fillers – and will have to put it right for them.

“Our commitment to our patients and anyone who walks through that door needing help is as strong as ever and given the cost-of-living crisis it’s vital we support one another, something we will continue to do at Pure Perfection.”

The launch takes place this Thursday from 1.30pm-7pm, where visitors can meet Sara and her experienced team, watch demonstrations of the new machinery, and enjoy talks and a free consultation.

Skin clinician who survived cancer leads ‘star box’ campaign for people undergoing treatment

AN INSPIRING skin clinician and cancer survivor is part of a campaign to support people undergoing treatment for the condition.

Sara Cheeney, owner of the award-winning Pure Perfection Clinic in Rossett, is among a group of six volunteers working to develop a new ‘Star Box’.

Backed by NHS charity Awyr Las, the care package is for patients using the Shooting Star Unit at Wrexham Maelor Hospital, which cared for the mum-of-two when she was diagnosed with breast cancer at just 34 years of age.

Sara, from Llangollen, has also vowed to donate a portion of her company’s profits to the cause and is delighted to be able to “give something back” after successfully battling the disease more than six years ago.

“Being told you have breast cancer is a terrifying ordeal, but I am a fighter and had to carry on, for my family and my business,” she said.

“I never ever wanted to be labelled a victim and like so many women I gathered my strength and moved on with my life.

“Cancer made me refocus, and you never lose that; the opportunity to be able to support Awyr Las and the Shooting Star Unit has given me fresh impetus to help others now in that situation.”

Sara added: “I received a lot of support but there is even more available now and the Star Box is something I would have gained a lot of comfort from.

“It’s the small things included that will make a difference, like a pair of warm socks for when your feet become cold, a notepad to note hospital appointments, small gestures targeting the senses, the things we take for granted.

“I am honoured to have been asked to be part of the group taking this forward and Pure Perfection will also be donating a portion of its profits year on year to contribute to the project.”

Sara’s kind gesture comes after her 40th birthday celebrations, which included a fancy dress party, raffle, and coffee and cake events that raised more than £2,000 for the charity.

The Star Box project was co-founded by Anne Marie Humphreys, a Senior Sister on the Shooting Star Unit.

With the backing of organisations including Mike and Jules Peters’ Love Hope Strength Foundation, she hopes the scheme will enhance the experience patients have during visits.

“Specialist chemotherapy nurses are fully aware that the clinical aspect of a patient’s care is paramount towards achieving a positive response to the disease process,” said Anne Marie.

“However, to be able to complement this with timely information, compassion and supportive gestures can make a difference to a patient undergoing treatment.”

Surgeon launches private clinic for vascular patients on lengthy NHS waiting lists

AN ESTEEMED surgeon has launched a new private vascular health clinic.

L&P Vascular will be based in Rossett, between Wrexham and Chester, and offer consultation and surgical procedures for people with conditions that affect the arteries, veins, and the lymphatic system, including varicose veins.

With more than 30 years’ experience in the UK and Hungarian health services, director Laszlo Papp is a well-known name in the sector having obtained the European Qualification in Vascular Surgery (FEBVS) two decades ago.

He is also one of only 12 Professors of Vascular Surgery in Europe to hold a Gold Examiner award from the FEBVS (Fellow of the European Board for Vascular Surgery) and was a visiting professor at Yale University in the US.

Laszlo said the practice will complement existing NHS services and offer people the chance to avoid lengthy waiting times given that more than 400 people in North Wales alone are on the list to be treated for varicose veins.

“Our main focus will be consultation and treatment of varicose veins, but we are also able to support people with a range of conditions affecting the arteries and lymphatic system,” he said.

“The waiting times can be quite lengthy for these issues – often several years, depending on how serious it is – but we would expect to be able to see people within a matter of weeks or months.

“There is a huge demand for this service so it’s an interesting and exceptionally busy time to begin this next chapter in my professional life.”

L&P Vascular is a private practice that will be sited at the award-winning Pure Perfection Clinic on Chester Road.

Featuring innovative medical technology and ultrasound scanning equipment, it will use a variety of procedures and methods to treat varicose veins – swollen and enlarged veins which tend to appear on the legs and feet, often twisted and bulging, causing pain and discomfort and even ulceration of the leg.

However, with research revealing more than 30% of the UK will develop varicose veins in their lifetime – and women are more likely to do so than men – people are urged to look out for other symptoms including itchy, sore skin over the veins, swollen legs, and hard tender lumps.

Laszlo revealed in the majority of cases keyhole surgery takes 40 minutes if one leg is treated to 1.5-2 hours if a more extensive treatment is needed or two legs are treated on the same occasion. The majority of patients will be able to walk in and walk out after a short period of rest and recovery.

Other services he will provide include Doppler tests for arterial disease, radiofrequency ablation treatment, and foam sclerotherapy and injection sclerotherapy of varicose veins.

“If varicose veins are causing long-term complications that could lead to a blood clot or leg ulcer. Offering our services means the patient will not have to wait as long for treatment as they would have via their local health board,” he said.

“But in most cases the issue is cosmetic or causing minor discomfort, so the wait is years rather than months.”

Laszlo added: “To be able to open the clinic in such a perfect location is a great thrill for me; we have already had a lot of interest from not only North Wales but Cheshire, Wirral and into the North West so it’s an exciting time.”

Sara Cheeney, Director of Pure Perfection Clinic, added: “We are delighted for Laszlo and for L&P Vascular to be based here, offering private clients another high-quality, much-needed medical service in this region.”

Skin clinic reveals patients lost confidence and ditched beauty regimes during lockdown

AN ‘alarming’ number of people lost confidence in their appearance after two years of wearing masks and video conferencing in isolation.

Pure Perfection Clinic in Rossett, near Wrexham and Chester, experienced a surge in feedback from patients who became used to “hiding away” behind face coverings and abandoned skincare and beauty routines after being in lockdown due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Award-winning owner Sara Cheeney, from Llangollen, said a return to face-to-face meetings, no social distancing and getting back to the workplace left many clients feeling self-conscious after covering up for so long.

“We have had an alarming number of patients come back to us in past months who say they dreaded endless video conferencing meetings because they were not used to looking at their own face all day,” she added.

“Given so many of us were in lockdown and had to mask up in public it’s quite understandable there would be some anxiety, and that has been the case for some people.

“We held free consultations and tutorials throughout the Coronavirus pandemic and continue to do so virtually for those who want them, but most patients have returned to clinic and their skincare routines and are already feeling a hundred times better.

“It is a physical issue but also a state of mind; if confidence is low and you are worried about the way you look it can have a wider impact – this was an unprecedented time for all sectors and each one has navigated challenges never experienced previously.”

Pure Perfection Clinic added to its specialist offering during the pandemic with new treatments including Thread Face Lifts and the National Medical Weight Loss and 10 Years Younger packages.

The clinic is also now a Centre of Excellence for the Maili Dermal Filler Brand – recognition of its safe practice and customer service – and the launch of a new website has enabled patients to purchase products and book appointments online.

Ahead of a revamp to their Chester Road site – a new treatment room forms part of the redevelopment – and with skilled staff in place on the medical side of the business, Clinic Manager Marianne Burrell said they have never been busier.

“In past months we have seen more and more bookings, which after such a tumultuous period is very positive,” she said.

“The next step is to consolidate and then grow steadily, with plans for long-term expansion and new treatments, as well as national training programmes.

“We’ve also been shortlisted for the Aesthetic Medicine awards in four categories so we are hoping to add a few more trophies to our list of achievements.

“Above all, the health and happiness of our patients is paramount, so to see them refocus on their own wellbeing and return with smiles on their faces and renewed optimism is fantastic.

“It’s an exciting time for Pure Perfection Clinic and we would like to thank our team, patients and supporters – especially those on social media – who have been with us throughout.”

Cancer survivor launches fundraising drive for chemo patients on landmark birthday

A RENOWNED skin clinician who survived breast cancer is marking her 40th birthday with an epic fundraising drive following a “rollercoaster journey” in life and business.

Award-winning aesthetic nurse Sara Cheeney – owner of Pure Perfection Clinic in Rossett, near Wrexham and Chester – will host a charity event in aid of breast cancer research this Friday (November 19) from 10am.

Having endured and overcome her own fight with the condition in her early thirties, the Llangollen mum-of-two has now been cancer free for five years.

Sara wants to give back to the community that supported her, notably during the Coronavirus pandemic.

She herself helped people throughout with free support and advice sessions to prevent skin damage due to self-isolation and rigorous hand washing and sanitising.

“Of course, 40 is a landmark personally, and I truly believe in the old saying that ‘life begins’ because I’ve been through so much, it’s been a rollercoaster journey,” said Sara, who is married to accountant Chris.

“When I was found to have breast cancer at 34 years old, I honestly didn’t believe I’d make it to this age, my whole world was turned upside down, but I did it with the care of so many amazing doctors and nurses.

“Most importantly it’s made me think about how lucky I am to have such a brilliant family and team around me at Pure Perfection, who have been incredible, especially throughout Covid.

“We were closed for a long time, and due the nature of what we do had to open and close several more times, but we have the most loyal clients who were with us all the way – I’ll never forget that.”

The business has again been nominated for Clinic of the Year at the Safety in Beauty Diamond Awards, taking place in December, having also been listed as one of only six Clinical Centres of Excellence by Maili, whose Swiss-developed hyaluronic acid fillers have been designed to reverse signs of ageing.

However, Sara’s number one priority in the run up to Christmas is raising as much money as she can for breast cancer research, particularly groups and services local to North Wales and the North West.

The Pure Perfection team will be joining forces with the Wrexham Maelor Hospital Shooting Star Unit to create STARting bags for patients undergoing chemotherapy, a care package to lift the spirits and support them during treatment.

“We will be holding a day of activities at the clinic, including coffee and cake, a raffle with top prizes to be won, and discounts and offers on treatment for patients, with all proceeds going to this worthwhile cause,” said Sara.

“I will also be hosting a 40th birthday party at The Berwyn Arms in Glyndyfrdwy this Saturday (November 20) with a James Bond Casino Royale theme and charity raffle, so that should also raise plenty of funds for our appeal.”

She added: “I went through endless bouts of chemotherapy and several surgeries while running the clinic and raising two children, so hopefully if anyone out there is struggling, they will use that as inspiration to keep fighting, to never give up.

“I stayed positive and now my life and Pure Perfection are in a wonderful place; cancer made me even more determined and focused, so I will do all I can to help others on that same journey.

“We hope to see people there on Friday, and if you can’t make it, please support our JustGiving page – thank you.”

North Wales skin clinic welcomes new faces after surge in patients post-lockdown

AN AWARD-WINNING skin clinic welcomed new faces after returning from lockdown in style.

Pure Perfection Clinic has experienced a surge in patients since reopening in March and taken on extra staff to meet demand.

The business, based in Rossett – between Wrexham and Chester – also unveiled an innovative thread lift treatment already proving popular with clients, adding to the Dermal Fillers and transformational Morpheus8 machinery launched pre-lockdown.

Owner Sara Cheeney has been busy throughout the pandemic, hosting regular virtual consultations and free tutorials with guidance and advice for anyone suffering skin complaints.

As well as technological advances, the clinic will unveil a new-look website including an online patient and e-commerce portal, and Sara has been in demand as a coach and trainer to clinicians across the country.

An ambassador for the world-famous Hydrafacial aesthetic treatment and UK trainer and key opinion leader for Zo Skin Health, she is delighted to be “back with a bang” after a challenging time for all sectors and says they are aiming to recruit more new employees in the months ahead.

“Like most clinics we had to close immediately, and at several other points over the last 16 months, which was tough for all of us,” said the mum-of-two, from Llangollen.

“But we fought through it and are busier than ever; in fact, as we came close to opening after being closed for months we could hardly keep up with the bookings, it’s been manic.

“As a result, we’ve taken on three new members of staff and may need to add more if things continue like this, but of course the safety of our customers comes first and adhering to the Covid rules and restrictions.”

Nominated for Clinic of the Year at the Safety in Beauty Diamond Awards this December, Pure Perfection has also been listed as one of only six Clinical Centres of Excellence by Maili, whose Swiss-developed hyaluronic acid fillers have been designed to reverse signs of ageing.

“We are absolutely at the top of our game and the ideas and technology put in place during the pandemic mean we are in a strong position moving forward,” said Sara, named Aesthetic Nurse of the Year at the Safety in Beauty Diamond Awards last summer.

“The Coronavirus has seen us implement new ways of working but our passion and commitment to our loyal patients is unwavering. I really must thank them because they have stuck with us through all of this and shown so much support.”

She added: “If anything – after having time to reflect on the business – we will be even better in the years ahead because we, and our clients, don’t take anything for granted.

“Not being able to keep to healthy skin regimes while in lockdown had an impact on mental health, and in turn that showed how vital it is we care for our skin. It was the same during our virtual consultations, people felt self-conscious about their appearance, and it had a negative effect.

“Reopening has been a relief for everyone, but we also know we can adapt and pivot and take things online should we ever need to in the future. Resilience has been key, and I am proud of how the team at Pure Perfection have bounced back after such an unprecedented period in all of our lives.

“Most importantly, we really missed seeing our patients in person because this is a sector where that person-to-person connection is crucial. We are glad to have that back and are more passionate than ever to help people achieve healthy skin, and healthy, happy lives.”

Clinic prepares to emerge from lockdown with new technology and innovative treatments

PURE PERFECTION CLINIC is preparing for life after lockdown by unveiling revolutionary new treatments and technology.

The award-winning Rossett clinic has been closed for months due to the Coronavirus pandemic and staff have been working tirelessly behind the scenes to support patients by offering free advice and guidance via online tutorials and social media.

Owner Sara Cheeney – who was crowned Aesthetic Nurse of the Year at the Safety in Beauty Diamond Awards last summer – says the health and wellbeing of employees and customers remains paramount, so social distancing measures will be in place when they reopen on July 13, and virtual consultations shall continue.

The clinic, based between Wrexham and Chester, is also introducing Hydrafacial Kerarive, a ground-breaking scalp treatment combatting hair loss, hair thinning and dry skin, unavailable anywhere else in Wales and the north west.

“Being in lockdown has been challenging, as it has for all businesses, which is why we have been communicating with patients and the public while in quarantine, helping them to look after their skin,” said Sara, from Llangollen.

“Their safety comes first, so guidelines will be in place for when people start returning to clinic, including a Covid-19 appointment protocol, social distancing, a hand sanitiser station and more.

“It will be a new way of working, but our dedication and commitment will be as professional as ever and we will be unveiling some exciting new packages and technology that will appeal to current and prospective patients.”

She added: “The Hydrafacial Kerarive is a treatment we had planned to introduce earlier this year, and it’s something both men and women will benefit from.

“It’s soothing and therapeutic, targeting hair loss and improving scalp health, which is a serious issue for many.

“We exfoliate the skin on our faces every day, but not the scalp, despite the build-up from products and shampoos. Keravive can prevent hair falling out and thinning, restore blood flow and remove debris, including dandruff.

“The results are quite phenomenal so we’re sure this will be a popular treatment in the months ahead.”

Pure Perfection has been lauded in past weeks for advising people struggling with the health of their skin – especially on their hands after continual washing – while in self-isolation.

Sara says it is vitally important that continues in the short term before customers return to clinic.

“A lot of people were unable to keep to health and beauty regimes while in lockdown, which in turn had an impact on mental health – that’s the feedback we’ve had,” she said.

“Beauty isn’t skin deep, and many people have felt down and unhappy because they’ve been unable to keep to their previous routines; reopening will be a relief for them.

“We can’t wait to see everyone when the time is right, but for now please stay safe and be sure when you do return to Pure Perfection it will be a safe, secure and welcoming environment for our staff and patients.”

Appointments are now being taken, with priority given to patients whose previous bookings were cancelled. Demand is so high they are recruiting a new aesthetician.
