Leading global training provider Product Focus has released a whitepaper for Product Management professionals titled ‘Global Product Management Enterprise Software Localization’ describing how much of the responsibility for product localization falls to the product managers and how they can complete a successful localization process,
For software product companies expanding into other territories, the topic of localization is critical. A successfully localized product will take into account issues of data representation, local business and legal constraints, as well as cultural norms. The insightful paper describes how localization impacts the product manager, what they need to know and provides a checklist of key considerations for a successful localization process.
Product Focus has used insights gained from working with thousands of companies and product professionals as well as a localization industry expert to set out the key features of localizing software aimed at businesses. The aim is to help product managers maximize the value they get from their product, ensuring that the user interacts in their own language, with data presented in a format familiar to them, and crucially, that it aligns with cultural norms.
Founding Director of Product Focus, Ian Lunn, is an industry leader with over 25 years’ experience in product management roles. He started Product Focus in 2006, with fellow Director Andrew Dickenson, to help companies achieve high-quality product management, through teaching the skills and providing the tools they need to excel. The team works with a wide range of companies, from start-ups to huge multinationals, delivering online and face-to-face courses across the world.
On the reasoning behind the whitepaper, Ian explains, “Users’ expectations of enterprise software have changed over time – while users might once have been told to ‘just use it’, consumerization means these same users now have high expectations for the experience. So software has to be localized.”
“The goal of localization should be that your product appears to the user as though it had been designed in their country and culture and not imported from elsewhere. Product Managers need to understand the areas that are being considered, why they are important, and the need to engage with local experts.”
