Matt Johnston from MRJ Investment Advisory said:

“I was delighted to be invited to present awards for outstanding fund management achievers over the last three years.  The attraction of the CAMRADTA awards format is they are an unbiased reflection of facts on return and risk.  This helps investors make informed choices.”

Sean Thompson, Managing Director, CAMRADATA said:

“These awards are fast becoming a highlight of the investment management social calendar and we were delighted to have a number of investor clients to help us present these awards.

“CAMRADATA has been gathering, analysing and publishing asset manager data since 2003 to enable institutional investors, including pension schemes, insurance firms, charities and investments consultants to make informed investment decisions.”

Unlike many other industry awards, CAMRADATA does not engage a judging panel to decide who wins. Instead, it applies Independent Quantitative ‘IQ’ scores and rankings to determine the most exceptional funds, using five quantitative risk and performance calculations, based on data from the last three years.

CAMRADATA’s main publishing brand, Funds Europe, has published a special CAMRADATA Awards supplement April, with an in-depth look at all the 2020 winners.

Northampton Mature Apprentice Rhiannon overcomes challenges to win awards

During National Autism Week[i] (30th March – 5th April), Northamptonshire Health and Care Partnership (NHCP) is highlighting how one employee with Asperger’s Syndrome has overcome challenges to excel in her career and win its prestigious ‘Apprentice of the Year 2020’ award.

Rhiannon Rees-Jones is 39-year-old and works as an Administrative Assistant in Northamptonshire Adult Social Services. Rhiannon has Asperger’s Syndrome and has found undertaking an apprenticeship quite challenging. But although there have been times of frustration, she has overcome them through sheer determination and her can do attitude.

Rhiannon is currently doing an apprenticeship in Level 3 Business Administration, which is giving her the perfect platform to progress her career. She has learnt new skills, including project management and managing change, which she has found particularly useful in her day to day role in administration.

Rhiannon beat 41 other apprentices to win the overall apprentice of the year award and also won the ‘Behind the Scenes’ award for Adult Social Care at NHCP’s annual apprentice awards event in February.

Rhiannon says,

“As someone with Asperger’s, life can be pretty challenging, but I no longer see it as a barrier. I have achieved things I never thought I would thanks to the support of my friends, family and colleagues. Without this strong network of individuals, I don’t think I would have the courage to go on this journey and reach this milestone.”

“I would like to encourage anyone on the Autism Spectrum to keep developing themselves and try not to let it hold them back. I think people should make the most out of life and the opportunities that may arise, just like I have.”

Before embarking on her career in health and social care, Rhiannon worked in a variety of jobs, ranging from bartending to retail and data entry. Around ten years ago, she joined Northamptonshire County Council and has excelled in her career within the admin department and says she has found her niche.

Rhiannon adds,

“The apprenticeship in Nottingham gave me the chance to challenge myself and expand my knowledge and skills. I found the course difficult, yet fun. It enabled me to network with new people, learn a lot and gain a huge sense of accomplishment. I’d definitely recommend apprenticeships as a great way to learn and develop.”

Laura Lydia Watts, Project Manager for Apprenticeships and Work Experience at NHCP said,

“Apprenticeships give people of all ages and abilities the opportunity to learn whilst working. They are a unique step into a healthcare career and give people a platform to progress, just like Rhiannon. We’d encourage people with disabilities to consider an apprenticeship as they’ll be fully supported, and it could open career doors they may never have thought about.”

“We offer a huge variety of health and care apprenticeships, including nursing degrees and nursing associate roles, as well as pharmaceutical, engineering and administrative roles in business, IT, HR and finance.”

Several of Northamptonshire’s health and care providers are part of the ‘Best of Both Worlds’ healthcare recruitment campaign, which unites the University of Northampton, Northamptonshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, Northampton General Hospital NHS Trust, Kettering General Hospital NHS Foundation Trust (KGH), Primary Care and St Andrew’s Healthcare in recruiting doctors and nurses to relocate and live and work in Northamptonshire.

Part of the campaign is focused on recruiting apprentices across the county. For more details on apprenticeships available visit: www.bestofbothworlds.uk.net/northamptonshire-apprenticeships/

Risky pitch from Northumbria Marketing Students wins Seventh Greggs Challenge

Business students at Northumbria University have succeeded in winning this year’s Greggs Marketing Challenge thanks to a “naked bake” campaign.

The Greggs Challenge, now in it’s seventh year, is one of the region’s most prestigious marketing student competitions, with the team from Northumbria’s Newcastle Business School competing against other post-graduate students from Newcastle, Teesside, and Sunderland Universities.

This year’s challenge saw students invited to design a campaign entitled “Greggs by Night: Keeping the Brand Contemporary in the Evening”, with the goal of increasing Greggs business between the hours of 5pm and 9pm.

Team Northumbria students, Jordan Strachan, Harry Ash, Natalie Drinkwater, Emily Hardwick, Emily McKee and Jordan Seddon, came up with a “naked bake campaign”, spearheaded by the cheeky caption #getnaked. Based on their own extensive market and consumer research, the team recommended removing pastry from favourites such as steak bakes, and instead serving them in a box with a healthy choice of rice, beans or salad. They were able to demonstrate to the judges that this offering was more substantial, more evening marketing friendly and would appeal to more health-conscious customers.

Natalie Drinkwater explained:

“We opened our pitch to the judges by saying Greggs should get naked. It was quite a risk, but I think because were able to deliver a presentation based on our research and as a focused and unified team with a clear message, it worked.

“We didn’t reinvent the wheel; we took something traditional to Greggs but offered a healthy alternative – the company’s biggest growing area – and created a product that was more suitable for the Evening Market. We utilised Greggs’ current channels and digital strategy and applied them to be evening market appropriate. Some of the feedback from the Judges was that it was so cost effective by keeping it simple, incorporating current strategies and not trying to implement massive changes.”

Each student team in the Greggs Marketing Challenge had to deliver a 15-minute presentation in front of the judging panel, which included senior directors. There were also around 170 guests in attendance. Announcing the award, the judging panel identified Team Northumbria as the unanimous victors, hailing their customer insights, campaign ideas, execution and professionalism.

Professor John Wilson, Pro Vice-Chancellor for the Faculty of Business and Law at Northumbria, added:

“The Greggs Marketing Challenge is one of the region’s top student business competitions, and we are extremely proud of our students’ achievement. Winning emphasises the quality and talent of the students we have here at Newcastle Business School, and the value they clearly offer to future employers. The team demonstrated creative thinking with their slightly cheeky and eye-catching campaign, and they backed this up by putting theory into practice delivering a presentation of a standard any professional agency would be proud.”

Winners of 2020 HSJ Partnership Awards revealed

The 14 high-calibre winners of the 2020 HSJ Partnership Awards were announced during an awards ceremony at Park Plaza Westminster last week.

The HSJ Partnership Awards – now in their 3rd year – are independently judged by experts from across the healthcare sector, looking specifically for organisations from the private and charitable sectors that clearly strive to improve collaboration and innovation within the NHS.

A great variety of different sectors and industries from all over the country were represented throughout the evening. The diversity on display – both in terms of the projects undertaken and the teamwork showcased – demonstrated a growing dedication to work efficiently and effectively with the NHS.

The awards ceremony was hosted by the lively and engaging Ellie Taylor who led the evening with the passion and respect that the finalists and winners rightly deserved.

Of the 14 winners, Best Pharmaceutical Partnership with the NHS was awarded to Kite Pharma, a Gilead Company, NHS England and NHS Partners for its work on an innovative treatment that has offered the hope of disease-free years to people suffering from lymphoma.

The judges saw this as transformational treatment which couldn’t have been done by the NHS alone. It demonstrated a passionate and ambitious approach to transformational medicine.

Further winners from the evening were:

  • The Perinatal Institute was awarded Best Not For Profit Working in Partnership with the NHS for the low-cost – 50p per birth – of their work on the Growth Assessment Protocol (GAP). GAP was able to demonstrate that most unexplained stillbirths were associated with growth restriction. For its work, judges praised the institute for the excellent nation-wide reach of the initiative and for the team’s consistent commitment to low costs whilst putting saving lives first.
  • Most Effective Contribution to Clinical Redesign was won by Lloyds Pharmacy Clinical Homecare which has redesigned how patients receive oncology drugs by moving many routine treatments to a centre run by Lloyds Pharmacy. This helped Northern Lincolnshire and Goole Foundation Trust to improve services allowing them to cope with the increasing demand for outpatient appointments. Judges praised the project for making a really good use of data and clearly articulating benefits for patients and for the NHS provider, highlighting the elevated level of patient engagement and improved patient experience.

HSJ Editor Alastair McLellan said,

“The HSJ Partnership Awards are always a wonderful showcase for the outstanding work across healthcare today. I am always extremely honoured to be involved in recognising high standards in healthcare. Congratulations to all our winners and nominees at this year’s awards.”

“It is always inspiring to hear of how organisations work together to help improve and continually contribute to innovation in the healthcare sector.”

Clearvision celebrate second consecutive win on The Sunday Times 100 Best list, plus 3-stars from b-Heard

Clearvision, the largest Atlassian Platinum Solution Partner in Europe, has secured its position on The Sunday Times 100 Best Small Companies to Work For list for a second consecutive year, picking up a 3-star status from the b-Heard survey along the way.
Every year, The Sunday Times publishes a list of best companies to work for in a range of categories from ‘best big’ to ‘best not-for-profit’, and ‘best companies’ to ‘best small’. Organisations enter themselves to compete for a place on the prestigious list, and are sent a link to the b-Heard survey which is completed by employees; results are then checked against the Best Companies Index (BCI) score.

The survey which measures ‘8 factors of workplace engagement’ through a series of 70 academically designed questions, is completed anonymously by employees to ensure accurate results.
In 2019, Clearvision entered for the first time, achieving a 2-star status from workplace engagement analysts b-Heard, whose scale starts at ‘Ones to Watch’ and goes all the way through to the maximum ‘3 Star’ accreditation.

For Clearvision to achieve 3 Stars — denoting the highest standard of workplace engagement, only awarded to organisations with a BCI score of 738 or higher, is a massive achievement reflecting extraordinary levels of workplace engagement.

Clearvision CEO Gerry Tombs commented,

“Five years ago, my goal was for Clearvision to make the Times 100 list, and in 2019 we achieved this. Thinking ahead, we challenged ourselves to improve our position by becoming an even better employer, taking much of what we’d learnt from the 2019 feedback and implementing changes where necessary. While this award is fantastic, an even better accomplishment for me has been witnessing year-on-year improvements in our Visionaries (staff).

“The Times 100 achievement has been an enabler for improvements in recruiting A-class people, resulting in decreased employee churn, and a better atmosphere in the workplace overall. We have a lot more to learn in this exciting journey together.”

The changes mentioned by Gerry, involved in-house experts developing software to better understand how teams operate, and how different personalities complement each other. Getting team dynamics right leads to happier, more focused employees, and as Gerry put it: “People are a critical element to our business, so it is important that we continue to invest in them.”

Alongside these efforts, a group called Hearts and Minds was formed, which focuses on employee wellbeing. As part of this, employees went off-site, volunteering their time at the Blue Cross and Samaritans. Other members of staff participated in charitable events on an individual basis, receiving sponsorship from colleagues. Visionaries enjoyed expert speakers addressing a number of topics during mental health awareness week, as well as guided meditation sessions from a qualified yogi.
