Vale of Glamorgan Builder named Best Builder in Wales

Barry Builder Precision Construction was delighted to be named the Best Builder in Wales at last month’s Welsh Home Improvement Awards, held at the Holland House Hotel in Cardiff on Saturday 23 November 2019.

The awards recognise the best professionals in the Home Improvement sector across Wales, and the Best Builder category is one of the most hotly contested.

The company said in a statement:

“Among a host of our peers including fantastic companies such as Wren Kitchens and Persimmon Homes we were delighted to win this award, which recognises our level of professionalism and customer service as a leading builder and construction company in Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan.

“The Best Building Contractor category award is for any building contractor who works with domestic clients, and is challenging to win because judges base their decision on a combination of ‘secret shopping’ and interviews with past and present clients.

“Construction is a difficult industry so we were delighted to win this prestigious award, particularly because the judges awarded us for our  ‘tireless work, passion and complete commitment to ensuring the job is perfect’.  To us, customer service is everything and we strive hard to deliver the best service in all we do, so it’s great to be rewarded for this.

“2019 will bring new challenges and new rewards, we have already secured a major industrial property maintenance contract in Barry and won several prestigious Property Development and building contracts in Cardiff, but whether it is one small extension or conservatory, or a complete site development with multiple new build properties, we treat all our customers with professionalism and respect, working to timescales and to budget.  We look forward to successfully delivering more building contracts across South and West Wales in 2020.”

Disney’s senior marketing VP offers guidance to the next generation of marketing talent at the IDM’s 2019 graduation

“The pace of change is only going to get faster in our industry, so you always have to keep up and stay one step ahead”

Disney’s Tony Miller offers guidance to the next generation of marketing talent at the IDM’s 2019 graduation

The Institute of Data & Marketing’s (IDM) 2019 graduation results show that professionals in the data and marketing industry continue to thrive despite significant change in recent years.

From the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and uncertainty around Brexit, to the wealth of new technologies available and increasing organisational responsibilities of the marketing function, the world in which the next generation of marketers will work is constantly evolving.

However, for marketers to keep a pace with the fast-moving times, they must continue to upskill and learn to stay one step ahead, according to Tony Miller, VP, Digital Marketing & CRM, EMEA, at Disney:

“Marketers must never stop learning, every day is a school day. Even after marketers have finished traditional education, they must remain curious, ask questions and investigate further, and always be prepared to read and upskill. The pace of change is only going to get faster in our industry, so you always have to keep up and stay one step ahead.”

These comments come as the Class of 2019 graduates from the IDM. The announcement includes the results of all the students that sat exams in 2019, with an impressive 96% of students achieving a pass. Almost two thirds (68%) of the students didn’t just pass, but also achieved a Credit or Distinction for their excellent work.

In all, there were over 450 students studying for their IDM Professional or Postgraduate Diplomas in Digital or Direct and Data-Driven Marketing in the past 12 months.

Miller added:

“With the proliferation of data, marketers must use data and insights to drive creativity and ideas. To open new doors to create, invent, and be more entrepreneurial. Curiosity and imagination, no matter what role a person has in their company or agency, is key to success – success for you in your career, success for the clients you look after to grow their business, and success for your brand.”

Andy Dorling, General Manager at the IDM concluded:

“The results we’ve seen from 2019 are a snapshot of the incredible talent we have within the UK’s creative industries, but we must ensure we continue to nurture the talent in our sector if we want to remain as global leaders in data-driven marketing.”

Leicester development The Wullcomb scoops acclaimed property award

The team behind a new residential development on Vaughan Way, in Leicester, have scooped the notable Large Residential Project of the Year accolade at the the fbe East Midlands Awards 2019.

Designed and led by East Midlands-based firm Franklin Ellis Architects, the project, titled The Wullcomb, is a newly built development in the heart of the city. It houses 297 modern studio, one and two-bedroom apartments within a series of staggered building blocks, featuring locally sourced light and dark brickwork for visual impact.

The 8th annual fbe East Midlands Awards were held on Thursday 24th October 2019, at Albert Hall in Nottingham – with top construction industry firms from across the region in attendance. The awards recognise and celebrate the best construction projects in the East Midlands.

The winning Leicester building boasts 35 different styles of apartments, designed to suit a range of residents including young families, downsizers, retirees, graduates and professionals, as well as a communal cinema room, modern lounges with fireplaces, a rooftop terrace with BBQ and pizza oven and shared dining and living area known as The Perch.

Delivered by owner Long Harbour in partnership with local developers Sowden, Winvic Construction Ltd and Franklin Ellis Architects, The Wullcomb reached completion earlier this year and welcomed residents into their new homes in late summer. The building is marketed, let and managed by Long Harbour’s bespoke property management company, Way of Life.

Jon Crabb, associate partner at Franklin Ellis Architects, said:

“We are extremely pleased to have won this accolade for our work on The Wullcomb. It is a fantastic development and for it to be recognised at the fbe East Midlands Awards is a great achievement.

“The collaborative approach with Sowden, Winvic and consultants on the project has been a very positive experience. We have thoroughly enjoyed working with Long Harbour and their team to design and deliver a new luxury standard of accommodation to Leicester city centre.

“The building’s design takes inspiration from many different sources including the city’s proud heritage and the desire to create new modern housing for its local residents. The new building has helped to create an impressive focal point on the approach into Leicester and has opened up the area for further developments in the future.”

Winvic’s Director of Multi-room, Mark Jones, added:

“What an amazing achievement it is for the whole team. Awards like this are won when the main contractor, architect, subcontractors and consultants come together as one, so I hope every single person who worked on the scheme is as proud as I am to say Winvic’s first completed project in the build-to-rent sector won Large Residential Project of the Year.”

Franklin Ellis Architects is a leading architectural practice which is celebrating 25 years in business. The firm is currently working on a number of high-profile commercial and residential projects across the East Midlands and nationwide.
