Glitz and Giving: Cheltenham’s Elegant Ball Dazzles Raising £11,000 for Charity

The Grand Coronation Ball Committee has raised £11,000 after hosting a highly prestigious ball at the Queens Hotel on 3rd February, attended by over 120 of Cheltenham and Gloucestershire’s most esteemed business leaders and their partners.

Proceeds from the Grand Coronation Ball will be split between Linc Charity, a Cheltenham charity dedicated to supporting blood cancer patients and their families across Gloucestershire, Herefordshire and South Worcestershire, and FISHAC (Friends of Imperial Square, Heritage and Conservation).

The funds will help Linc Charity continue its critical work in providing emotional and financial support for people receiving intensive chemotherapy. FISHAC will use the donation to help with plans to reinstate new railings and entrances around Imperial Square Gardens, Cheltenham, after they were removed 83 years ago to create armaments as part of the war effort at that time.

Louise Neal, CEO of Linc Charity, said: “We would like to thank the Grand Coronation Ball Committee, including the Trustees of FISHAC, Linc Charity, Frank Smith & Co Solicitors, HeadOn PR and The Queens Hotel, who all worked tirelessly for free to make the ball such a success. Linc Charity commemorates 25 Years this year of support for local blood cancer patients and their families so what better way to celebrate than to be involved in such a wonderful, generous and glamorous event.”

“We’ve been overwhelmed by the support from local businesses and individuals in helping the ball’s remarkable triumph,” added Bob Keevil, Chairman at Friends of Imperial Square Heritage and Conservation (FISHAC). “So many volunteered their time and assistance. Nicholas Granger of British Bespoke Auctions did a grand job of hosting the auction and getting the guests bidding so generously, and The Queen’s Hotel kindly donated the use of its splendid Regency Suite, making the Ball such an elegant affair.”

10th annual Women’s Business Conference and awards to be held in Cheltenham in October

Women’s Business Club will host its 10th annual conference and awards in Cheltenham on the 5th of October. The aim of the event is to inspire, empower and celebrate women in business whether they are starting out on their journey, are already established SME businesswomen or are employed women building a career.

The event, which is being sponsored by multi-asset social investment network eToro, will see businesswomen from all over England come together to connect, network, share expertise, listen to inspirational talks and attend 1-to-1 workshops.

This year’s keynote speaker will be Rupal Patel, author of From CIA to CEO.  Rupal’s high-octane career has taken her from dusty briefing rooms in jungles and war zones to corporate boardrooms and international stages. After a thrilling career at the CIA, she started two award-winning businesses and is now shaping the future of work by helping growth-oriented leaders and innovative organizations build careers and businesses that thrive with purpose.

Angela De Souza, CEO of Women’s Business Club, said: “We are so excited to be adding even more value to women in business this year through a number of key changes – both for delegates and for our speakers/experts. There is so much for women in business to get involved in at the event.”

The following changes have been made to this year’s event:

  1. A fully female lineup of speakers.
  2. Exhibiting with a difference: no more rooms full of stands with people selling at you. Instead, the event features Expert Pods where delegates can meet experts for a 15-minute one-to-one fully focused Q&A and advice session. Designed to build relationships and offer direct advice relevant to the attendee’s business.
  3. Workshops that are designed to be lessons, not lectures. These one-hour interactive sessions with hand-picked industry experts provide in-depth expert content and practical applications.

Taking place at the end of the conference, the SME Awards acknowledge and celebrate exceptional companies and their leaders. There will be nine prestigious awards presented on the night for women who are changing the game and leading the way in business. Nominees will be judged by the award sponsors and leading business experts.

The in-person conference and awards will be held at the Pitville Pump Room in Cheltenham and will cost £125+VAT, while the event will also be available virtually at a cost of £25+VAT with online attendees from five countries and a digital reach of approximately 115,000 businesses.

The venue has the capacity for 500 attendees and with previous events selling out, it is advisable to book in advance,” Angela said.

Housebuilder invests over £9 million in Gloucestershire community

A housebuilder building new homes in Gloucestershire is making financial contributions of over £9 million towards improving facilities and infrastructure across the county.

Five-star builder Bellway Wales currently has eight housing developments under construction in Gloucestershire. Four of these are in the Gloucester area – in Brockworth, Churchdown, Hunts Grove and Highnam – while the other three are in Tutshill, Newent, and Lydney in the Forest of Dean, and in Charfield in South Gloucestershire.

The new homes at two further developments in the Gloucester area, in Brockworth and Hardwicke, have all been completed and sold.

As part of the planning agreements for these ten developments, Bellway has made significant investment in the local area.
In Churchdown, where 465 new homes are being provided at Pirton Fields, more than £6.1 million is being contributed towards local facilities, with nearly £5 million towards education – comprising £2.7 million towards primary education, £1.7 million for additional secondary school facilities at Chosen Hill School and more than £500,000 towards pre-school places.

In Brockworth, Bellway has provided £1.2 million as part of its Cotswold Chase development and a further £42,000 as part of Millbrook Grove, while in Hardwicke, £540,000 has been invested as part of Hardwicke Grange. In Highnam, where all the homes at Lassington Reach have now been sold, £435,000 is going towards community facilities.

Elsewhere across the county, more than £640,000 is being invested in Charfield as part of St James Mews. Bellway’s Manor Chase development has brought investment of £166,000 in Tutshill near Chepstow and Picklenash Grove in Newent has provided contributions totalling £117,000.

Sales Director for Bellway Wales, Billie Oaten, said: “The financial contributions we are making as part of our Gloucestershire developments represent a major investment towards local education, healthcare and road improvements.

“These contributions will benefit families moving to our homes in Gloucestershire, and existing residents who already live in the county.

“We have a longstanding commitment to Gloucestershire and are proud to be delivering much-needed new homes and investment around Gloucester and the county, and we look forward to continuing to help enhance the areas which surround our new homes.”

Bellway has a five-star rating with the Home Builders Federation (HBF), which means more than nine out of ten customers said that they would recommend the housebuilder to a friend in the HBF’s National New Homes Customer Satisfaction Survey.

Housebuilders to provide £5.7 million investment as part of Churchdown development

A new housing development in Churchdown is set to bring financial contributions totalling more than £5.7 million to improve infrastructure and facilities in the area.
Pirton Fields, a joint development by Bellway and Ashberry Homes, will provide 465 new homes off Cheltenham Road East, including 163 affordable homes available for local people through shared ownership or rent.

As part of the planning agreement for the development, the housebuilders are investing nearly £5 million in local education facilities – £2.7 million towards primary education, £1.7 million to provide additional secondary school facilities at Chosen Hill School in Churchdown and more than £500,000 towards pre-school places in the area.

More than £760,000 is also being invested in improving local roads, including improvements at Elmbridge Court roundabout.

Daniel Shone, Sales Manager for Bellway Wales, said: “Every home we build is part of a community and it’s a key part of our role within that community to make investments which help improve local people’s lives.

“The millions of pounds we’re investing in the Churchdown area will make a difference for new and existing residents, now and in the future.

“And of course, we’re also providing much-needed new homes, meeting the demand for a varied mix of housing to cater for those at different stages of the property ladder.”

Carly Maidment, Sales Manager for Ashberry Homes Wales, said: “As well as delivering millions of pounds of funding for local education and road improvements, Pirton Fields will also provide large areas of public open space, including three play areas, for residents to enjoy.

“We are looking forward to releasing the first homes for sale later this year and helping local people find a home which suits their needs.”
Pirton Fields will comprise a range of one and two-bedroom apartments, two-bedroom bungalows and two, three and four-bedroom houses.
Bellway at Pirton Fields will consist of 368 homes, including 131 affordable properties, while Ashberry at Pirton Fields will comprise 97 homes, of which 32 will be affordable.

Final homes snapped up at Highnam development

All 88 homes have now sold at a popular Bellway development near Gloucester.

The site is Lassington Reach, a development of three, four and five-bedroom homes in the Gloucestershire village of Highnam.

Carly Maidment, sales manager for Bellway Wales said:

“We are really pleased that so many buyers have found their dream home at Lassington Reach.

“The demand locally for new houses was clearly there – it’s an attractive development in a fine Gloucestershire village surrounded by countryside and yet just three miles from Gloucester.

“And Bellway is still a five-star builder, meaning more than 90 per cent of buyers would recommend us to a friend.

“But buyers who missed out at Lassington Reach need not despair. We have two new sites nearby which are set to launch later in the year, so we will continue to meet the high demand for homes in the county.”

As part of the planning agreement for the development, Bellway invested more than £270,000 in local services.

Of this, £180,000 went towards local sports facilities, £50,000 towards play equipment at Highnam Recreational Park and £40,000 towards Highnam Surgery. There were also donations towards local recycling and dog waste bins.

Building work is currently on hold at Bellway’s Pirton Fields in Churchdown and Millbrook Grove in Brockworth and will recommence later in the year.

Prices for the homes at these two developments are yet to be confirmed. For more information, visit bellway.co.uk.
