Tech pioneer joins forces with global solutions provider to help solve water leakage crisis

AN innovative technology pioneer has joined forces with a giant of the water industry.

UK-based Binnies – part of the RSK Group of companies delivering integrated environmental, engineering, and technical services to a variety of sectors globally – will partner with iVapps at the Yorkshire Water Innovation Marketplace tomorrow (Thursday),

The organisations have united to showcase the strides made in producing green applications to sustainably digitise the pipeline network.

That includes the world’s first recyclable smart cartridge, a ground-breaking digital solution from iVapps that will serve ‘smart cities’ and meet demand for an answer to the water leakage crisis.

Together Binnies and iVapps are among 32 participants attending this week’s event and will bid for contracts to provide ideas and responses to the challenges facing Yorkshire Water; notably supply interruptions and avoiding the need to break ground and cause widespread disruption for residents and businesses.

Nigel Roberts, International Business Manager at iVapps – which has sites in St Asaph, London, Jersey, Singapore, and the Philippines – said this is a fantastic opportunity to display cutting-edge equipment that will improve the network for generations to come.

“We are delighted and privileged to partner Binnies at the event as their technological partner, and to explore future solutions to the crisis facing the water sector,” said Nigel.

“They are one of the most renowned and respected companies in the industry with a long-standing reputation for helping clients all over the world, delivering functional and sustainable infrastructure and lasting environmental and social legacies using low- and zero-carbon approaches.

“We embrace those same methods and as a growing business want to take our environmentally-friendly, recyclable products to the next level.”

The iVapps smart cartridge is fitted with inflow real time technology sensors to digitise pipelines and control and monitor temperature, flow, pressure, turbidity, quality and more.

As a result, it can identify problems including leakages, contamination and bursts that cause billions of pounds in financial and ecological damage each year.

The Innovation Marketplace will feature ‘procurement competitions’ and focus on solutions to enhancing regulatory performance, cost efficiency and providing customers with a safer and less intrusive experience.

Neil Dewis from Yorkshire Water said: “The Innovation Marketplace will help us to adopt solutions that are new to market or have been developed through our innovation programme.

“We hope the solutions will improve the quality of service on our network, reduce customer supply interruptions and carbon emissions.”

Yorkshire Water is one of Britain’s leading water utility companies supplying over 5 million customers, including 140,000 businesses.

It is aiming to reduce leakage by 40% in the next four years and in 2020 unveiled the largest and most extensive smart water network pilot in the UK.

Technology leaders to launch revolutionary water pipeline invention at virtual event

INNOVATIVE new technology will continue to revolutionise the global water industry and save billions of pounds in waste and environmental damage every year.

An international company with patents worldwide – and offices in North Wales, Jersey, Singapore and the Philippines – iVapps launches the latest addition to its award-winning pipeline application at a live virtual event from its UK research and development hub on Tuesday June 29 at 10am.

The unique digitised enabling solution brings networks in line with the development of ‘smart cities’ and meets demand for an answer to the ongoing water leakage crisis.

The mechatronic solution features the world’s first recyclable smart cartridge, complete with inflow real time technology sensors to digitise pipelines and control and monitor temperature, flow, pressure, turbidity, quality and more.

Already trialled in the UK, the design can monitor water flow and identify problems including leakages, contamination and bursts that cause billions of pounds in financial and environmental damage each year.

National Business Manager for the UK and Europe, Nigel Roberts, believes this is a landmark moment for mechatronics – uniting mechanical engineering and electronics – a step forward in the fight to preserve and manage the earth’s most precious resource.

“The iVapps smart cartridge is a true engineering future-proof revelation that delivers a solution to the industry’s current challenges, but also has a place in the development of the next generation of smart cities and towns,” he said.

“We have been in discussions for some time with a range of private and public sector organisations – from water companies, their infrastructure partners to the pharmaceutical, chemical and food industries – and they are fully supportive of the system and the benefits it will deliver.

“What our smart solution can do via digitisation and data management, while doubling up as a valve, is a game changer and meets the needs for a workable system that can be introduced here in the UK and internationally.”

However, time is not on their side. With one in nine people globally having no access to safe water – and as the UK strives to address its centuries-old infrastructure – England and Wales continue to lose 3.1 billion litres of water a day.

“In past months we have upscaled our research and development and tested our process successfully at different sites, so it is mechanically proven and ready to be introduced into the pipeline network,” said Nigel.

“We have received a lot of collaborative interest from some of the UK water companies and are excited about the future of our solution, because we know it will make a massive difference to the environment, and to people’s lives.”

He added: “We hope people will join us for the webinar to find out more, and to witness this revolutionary system for themselves.”

The live virtual event will feature real-time footage of the iVapps portal and smart cartridge at work, further information and a Q&A with iVapps CEO Simon Humphreys, (pictured) from Conwy.

Smart technology pioneer prepares to unveil portal solution to global water crisis

A DISRUPTIVE smart technology company is preparing to unveil a new pipeline portal that will revolutionise the water industry.

Already being trialled in Europe, the Middle East and parts of the UK, the invention from North Wales-based iVapps is creating waves in the sector and will be launched into the global market next year.

The marine-grade stainless steel portal features the world’s first smart cartridge valve complete with inflow technology sensors, enabling the user – from water companies to the pharmaceutical, chemical and food industries and more – to digitise their pipelines and control and monitor temperature, flow, pressure, turbidity and quality.

This will enable the user to identify and resolve issues in a number of areas, including contamination, bursts, and leakages, allowing them to move quickly to prevent further environmental and financial damage and reduce the loss of our most valuable resource – water.

Nigel Roberts, National Business Manager for the UK and Europe, said the St Asaph-based firm has big plans for the future.

He added: “The response and support we’ve had has been very positive, from water companies to governments and large manufacturing organisations across the UK and Europe.

“They and the industry in general now accept that digitisation of the pipeline networks is critical for their future sustainability.”

During the summer, it was reported by the Consumer Council for Water (CCW) that more than 3.3 billion litres of treated water – 20% of the nation’s supply and 234 million litres a day more than a decade ago – are lost due to leaking pipes in England and Wales.

“The water lost would meet the daily needs of 21.5 million people,” said Nigel.

“We have the technology to help eliminate this problem and deliver fundamental benefits to the environment and the water industry by supporting the development of a future proof network in partnership for generations to come.”

The iVapps portal solution has AI (Artificial Intelligence) capabilities which can be serviced without having to shut down pipelines or excavate roads, causing major disruption.

Once installed any future sensor technologies can be introduced or upgraded within 10 minutes and reused again. Delivering a low cost, low carbon, green friendly advance on the current process.

Celebrating victory in the Wales Start-Up Awards – where iVapps was nominated in three categories and won the Innovative Start-Up of the Year prize – Nigel said there is nothing like this anywhere in the world.

“Our potential in the global market is huge, and with very little valve innovation in the last century, certainly in terms of smart technology, we believe this has the potential to be a game changer.”
