  • The FEBE Growth 100 recognises and ranks the UK’s fastest growing private businesses with founders still actively involved
  • This list has a combined revenue of more than £3.7 billion and employs more than 20,000 people in the UK

On Thursday 28 September an awards night for the FEBE Growth 100 will be staged at Studio 2, Abbey Road Studios, London with the successful power players in Britain’s business world coming to celebrate. The Growth 100 celebrates British entrepreneurship at its best – highlighting founders that are driving their companies to deliver significant sales, revenue and profit, against a backdrop of unprecedented economic challenges.

The Growth 100 list shows a spread of entrepreneurial success throughout the UK with London top of the list with 26 companies; South East coming second place with 13 companies; Yorkshire in third position with 11, and Scotland, East Midlands and East of England each with 8. Women are founders or co-founders of over a third of all winning companies with the exact ratio of men to women founders standing at 66% to 34%.

And the list shows that it’s a whole variety of businesses achieving huge revenue growth: from the sale of morph suits and tights; to digital marketing security services; to vodka and garden sheds.

  • An operating profit in the latest financial year
  • Founder(s) must still be involved

The ultimate ranking of 100 was data-driven, with companies ordered by compound annual growth rate (CAGR) in sales over the last three financial years. Businesses were initially selected by either nominating themselves or through FEBE contacting them directly, as well as by accessing publicly available financial information.

In addition to the main list of 100, FEBE’s Watch List sits alongside the Growth 100 to celebrate businesses that do not meet all of the Growth 100 criteria, but have an amazing growth story and are achieving great things. Companies include Bird and Blend Tea Co, The Cheeky Panda and Wolf & Badger.

Commenting on the FEBE Growth 100 List, FEBE co-founder Charlotte Quince, said: “It’s an honour to bring such amazing group of entrepreneurs together to celebrate the success of the 100 fastest growing founder-led businesses in the UK. Our celebration is designed to feel as far away from a traditional corporate event as possible, so we are hosting an unforgettable night at the legendary Abbey Road Studios. A location which has welcomed the most iconic artists, composers and innovators over the last 90 years, will now be opening its doors to some of the most successful entrepreneurs in the country…our FEBE members!”

Former Dragon’s Den Dragon and FEBE Growth 100 ambassador, Jenny Campbell added: “I’m very proud to be part of something that celebrates and supports the very best British entrepreneurs and their companies. FEBE Growth 100 focuses on true entrepreneurialism. Founders are unique: their experiences, their vision and their resilience are unlike anything else. So, we want to celebrate these ‘dare to doers’ and shine a light on the incredible accomplishments of some of the finest and fastest-growing companies in the country.”

FEBE, co-founded by Charlotte Quince and John Maffioli, was born out of a desire to celebrate true entrepreneurship, by focusing on the founders behind incredible businesses, as well as an aim to reinvigorate the current corporate business award scene with entrepreneurial dynamism.

Growth 100 partners include PwC UK, Lawrence Stephens and Pictet.

Tilbury Douglas successfully achieves The Menopause Friendly Accreditation

Tilbury Douglas, a leading UK building, infrastructure, engineering and fit-out business, has successfully achieved The Menopause Friendly Accreditation established by Henpicked: Menopause In The Workplace.

The Accreditation is industry-recognised and the only accreditation that sets clear standards which must be met. In order to achieve it, employers are assessed by an independent panel and must demonstrate evidence of their effectiveness in six key areas: culture, policies and practices, training, engagement, facilities and evaluation.

Tilbury Douglas has been focused on creating more diverse and inclusive workplaces as part of its Better Together initiative. This included the launch of an employee network called Women @ Tilbury Douglas.

Craig Tatton, Chief Operating Officer and Better Together Sponsor at Tilbury Douglas, said: “Our Women’s Network has been committed to embedding high standards that embrace menopause in our workplaces. This has included seminars for all employees on World Menopause Day and the launch of a Menopause Policy, as well as training for senior management.

“We recognise that true inclusion is a journey, but we are proud to be officially accredited for everything that has been accomplished so far.”

“I’m greatly encouraged by the success and impact of the Women’s Network at Tilbury Douglas and pleased to see them prioritise menopause in the workplace,” says Deborah Garlick, CEO of Henpicked: Menopause In The Workplace. “Achieving The Menopause Friendly Accreditation is something to be proud of and especially for industries, such as construction, that are traditionally male orientated in terms of their staffing and business activity. Tilbury Douglas has done exceptionally well and I hope other similar businesses are inspired and encouraged by what they have achieved.”

DigitalWell announced as one of Ireland’s Best Managed Companies 2023

Company receives award for third time

DigitalWell has been named as one of Ireland’s Best Managed Companies. The awards programme is led by Deloitte Ireland, in association with Bank of Ireland. The company, which demonstrated superior business performance this year, was recognised at an awards ceremony on Thursday, 14 September.

This year at the 15th annual awards ceremony, Deloitte recognised 130 indigenous companies representing 24 of the 32 counties across the island of Ireland.

The network of companies has a combined turnover of €17 billion and €3 billion of exports sales, providing employment for over 53,000 people across Ireland across a range of sectors – from manufacturing and tech to construction and food and beverage. A detailed judging process precedes the recognition, evaluating the entire management team and business strategy. The judges look beyond financial performance at areas such as a company’s environmental, social and governance standards, strategic planning and talent strategy, when awarding Ireland’s top privately owned businesses.

Brian Murphy, Lead Partner for Ireland’s Best Managed Companies Awards Programme at Deloitte Ireland said: “This year we’re celebrating 15 years of the BMC programme and the incredible companies that have qualified. Even though this year’s cohort faced into another challenging period, over the past 15 years we’ve seen how indigenous Irish businesses find opportunities in change. Strengthening governance and recognising the value of specialist expert advice on critical areas such as ESG were key discussion points in the coaching sessions. We also saw companies increasingly focused on innovation driving internationalisation. Despite the uncertainties of the past few years, the confidence of Irish businesses is clear as more and more are scaling their market reach internationally”.

The eight newly qualified companies are: APC Ltd (Dublin), Codex (Dublin), JJ Rhatigan & Company (Galway), Kyte Powertech (Cavan), Lowe Corporation (Antrim), Mail Metrics (Dublin), Production Equipment Europe (Galway), and Topflight Travel Group (Dublin).

There were also 112 companies that requalified as a Best Managed Company, five companies achieved Gold Standard, and five companies were awarded Platinum Standard.

Nikki Canavan, Senior Director, Head of Origination & Sustainability, Corporate Banking Ireland, and judging panel member said: “Over the last number of years the companies in the Best Managed Companies network have shown huge strength in the face of disruption and uncertainty. This year in particular – a year that tested Irish businesses like never before – the judges noted the commitment, bravery, resilience and tenacity of the applicant companies.”

The members of this year’s judging panel were: Frank Ryan (Chair of Judging Panel) and current Chairman of the Board of IDA Ireland; Nikki Canavan, Senior Director at Bank of Ireland Corporate Banking; Feargal Mooney, Non- Executive Director and former CEO of Hostelworld Group; Sarah Murphy, CEO, Business Post; Colm Foster, Director of Executive Education at the Irish Management Institute; Ellvena Graham OBE, Chairman and Non-Executive Director, Ellvena is Chair of the Belfast Waterfront, ICC & Ulster Hall, Chairman of the Economic Advisory Group (EAG) in Northern Ireland, member of Senate & Senior Independent Governor of Queen’s University, Non Executive Director Dale Farm, and Chairman Catalyst; Lionel Alexander, Chairman Intact Software, Board Member Fine Grain Property, Board Member at St. James’s Hospital Dublin and Chairman Advanced Manufacturing Centre Ireland.

Winners Revealed at Menopause Friendly Employer Awards 2023

  • Organisations large and small crowned as winners in 11 categories
  • Prestigious live event celebrates menopause in the workplace
  • Police force, football club, government department, NHS team and telecoms giant among the winners

Hosted by Henpicked: Menopause in the Workplace and powered by headline sponsors HSBC UK, first direct, M&S Bank and Peppy, the industry-recognised Menopause Friendly Employer Awards were presented by broadcaster Louise Minchin on Thursday September 14, 2023 at the Royal Lancaster Hotel. Over 350 guests gathered there while another 250 joined virtually from across the country.

Also in attendance was the Rt Hon Caroline Nokes MP, Chair of the Women and Equalities Committee who called on all employers to follow through their menopause pledges and policies with training, education, employee resources and networks, menopause champions and physical adjustments.

Now in its second year, the 2023 Menopause Friendly Employer Awards recognise organisations and individuals whose commitment and determination have succeeded in providing support, solutions and resources that normalise menopause in the workplace. Two new categories this year celebrated the work of SMEs and organisations fully embracing diversity and inclusion.

“The winners this year came from a diverse range of organisations, large and small, including a government department, high street bank and NHS organisation alongside a football club, university and telecoms giant,” says Deborah Garlick, CEO of Henpicked: Menopause in the Workplace. “I was delighted to hear from the Menopause Friendly Independent Panel that not only was the standard exceptionally high, but the creativity, energy and commitment from employers was outstanding.

“The Independent Panel was looking particularly for the impact achieved within the workplace. This reinforces the point that just having a policy in place is not enough and it’s only through action and continued commitment that impact will be felt and the lived experience of menopause in the workplace changed for good.”

Notable among the winners were the number of traditionally male-dominated businesses, public services and smaller organisations. Once again, the courage, conviction and commitment shown by individuals entering the Community Award and the Carolyn Lazurus Award were immensely moving. The standard was extremely high leading the Independent Panel to give some Highly Commended awards for outstanding achievements and naming joint winners in the Community Award as they simply couldn’t choose between them.

“I’ve said it before and will keep on saying it: a menopause policy going dusty in a drawer won’t cut it: employers must put it in practice, make it live and breathe,” says the Rt Hon Caroline Nokes MP, Chair of the Women and Equalities Committee. “It takes action, commitment and often a great deal of courage to step up to change the lived experience of menopause in the workplace. The Menopause Friendly member organisation commit to sharing their insight and best practice with other employers. I would urge any business that doesn’t yet have a successful workplace strategy in place to get in touch and learn from others to fast-track becoming a menopause friendly employer.”

Xalient Named On the First Ever Global Top 100 Inspiring Workplaces List

  • The inaugural Global Top 100 is composed of organisations across North America, EMEA, and Australasia
  • Xalient ranks alongside Top 100 companies such as Anheuser-Busch, Concentrix, Experian, Federal Reserve Bank of NY, Gartner, and Rackspace Technology
  • Earlier this year Xalient was voted among the Top Inspiring Workplaces in EMEA

Secure network and digital identity transformation specialist, Xalient, today announced that it has been included in the first ever Global Top 100 Inspiring Workplaces list. Earlier in the year Xalient was voted among the top best companies in the EMEA Inspiring Workplace Awards 2023.

Independently judged, the Inspiring Workplaces Awards 2023 asked each organisation to complete an entry form consisting of six key elements. These are elements it believes are fundamental to creating an Inspiring Workplace and include: culture and purpose, leadership, wellbeing, inclusion and diversity, communication and employee experience.

Commenting on the award, David Bowes, Chief People Officer at Xalient, said: “I am immensely proud that Xalient has been recognised as an Inspiring Workplace not only in EMEA, but worldwide.  We are building a global company and this recognition is important to us as we continue to grow our international footprint and attract the best talent to fuel that growth.”

“Our people and our culture are critical to our success, and we have worked hard to ensure that our development programs and other initiatives to nurture our talent are not only inspiring but are a top priority for the business. In the current economic climate, the focus for most organisations is on optimising the workforce and creating operational efficiencies.  The reality is that the only lever you can pull to influence productivity and business performance is people. So, investing in them is critical to the overall success of the company.”

Matt Manners, Founder, The Inspiring Workplaces Group, commented: “There are no geographical boundaries to an Inspiring Workplace and the people who create them. It is with pride that we publish the Top 100 Global Inspiring Workplaces list for the very first time. Congratulations to Xalient who made both their regional list and the new worldwide accolade.”

In August, Xalient acquired Integral Partners LLC, a US-based digital identity consulting and advisory firm with over a decade of experience focused exclusively on IAM. The combination of these two dynamic organisations will accelerate future worldwide growth for Xalient.

This new global accolade comes off the back of many other significant recognitions achieved this year, including Xalient being named among Europe’s Fastest Growing Companies in 2023 by the Financial Times for the second consecutive year.  As well as being listed among 40 Best Employers in The Sunday Times Best Places to Work Awards.
