Christ College Brecon Kick Off in Italy

Christ College Brecon’s U18 rugby squad has returned from its Italian tour, playing four games and participating in three pro-coaching sessions across the week.

Based near Parma and Venice, Director of Sport, John Patterson, Head of Rugby Daniel Parry and a squad of 38 players faced the Italian National Under 18’s team, in addition to Dogi Rugby, Rugby Del Chiese and Unione Monferrato.

The squad was split into the Christ College 1st XV and 2nd XV touring sides with both displaying strong performances in each of their games. Due to injuries, the 2nd XV merged with players from local Italian side Lyons Pianceza in their game against Unione Monferrato. The ‘Barbarians style’ team narrowly missed out on a win, with the score 21-20 at the final whistle. The 1st XV team secured a substantial win against Dogi Rugby winning 42-12.

Alongside the games, the touring sides took part in three coaching sessions across the week first with coaches from Rugby Viadana and the Unione Monferrato U20 team and finally with former All Black and World Cup winner Craig Green.

Daniel Parry, Head of Rugby at Christ College Brecon, said: “The tour was an incredible experience for the teams to play some exceptional sides and learn a lot from world-class coaches.

“Despite a loss to a very strong Italy National under 18’s squad, our first team triumphed over a still strong Dogi Rugby, and our second team really enjoyed the ‘Barbarians style’ team experience with Lyons Pianceza.

“A big thank you to goes out to all of the teams we played and their staff for really making the experience worthwhile, and a special thanks to the coaches who put their time aside to help our squads continue to develop their skills.”

Builders merchant helps Winchester City’s under 16s ‘build’ for the future

The Southampton branch of Covers Timber & Builders Merchants is delighted to be the new kit sponsor of Winchester City Football Club’s under 16s team for the 2022/2023 season.

The builders merchant’s sponsorship will help to support the players and their coaches, and new match day and training kits displaying Covers’ logo have been issued to the team.

Winchester City Under 16s is a squad of 15 hardworking and talented boys. Core members of the team began playing together nine years ago as under 7s and have competed in all age groups of the Southampton Tyro League. Last season they won the league and made it to the league cup final.

Russell Vowles, Manager of the Winchester City Under 16s, commented:

“Sponsorship for match day and training kits from local companies is invaluable. Like most clubs, Winchester City is run on an entirely voluntary basis and, therefore, the funds to purchase kits are not available. This fantastically generous sponsorship enables the club to compete and offers the team a uniformed kit, which creates a feeling of belonging, a sense of pride and worth, and contributes to a professional match day and training experience.

“We are so very grateful to Covers for their generosity; the worth of the new kit is immeasurable. We look forward to seeing the boys wear the new kit next season in the City of Southampton League. Thanks Covers for your support.”

Michael Sheath, Depot Manager at Covers Southampton, added:

“Local sports teams give so much to the community, and we are delighted to be making this commitment to Winchester City’s under 16s team – the kits look great. We wish the squad the very best of luck for the season and look forward to hearing about their results.”

Will E-Sports Betting Outgrow the Online Casino Market in the UK?

The online casino market has steadily grown ever since the 90s when internet connectivity suffered a boost. While people initially had doubts as to how it worked, they were fast to embrace it for its convenience and speed. Even bingo lovers did not delay taking up the opportunity presented by online gambling. They soon supplemented traditional bingo halls with online bingo, with some even playing the latter in entirety, having foregone physical establishments. And with this increased uptake, it became easier for players to browse quality bingo reviews as they figured out which websites were most trustworthy. For a while, online gaming seemed to be winning and many people were investing in it.

Then came the e-sports industry which has grown so fast that by 2021, it was estimated to reach £31.00 billion by 2025. As such, talk has been rife regarding if it will outgrow the online casino market. This debate has unsettled some players who are unsure what to do. Should they start betting on e-sports? Or should they hold on to what they love, knowing that it will still be a good source of revenue in the coming decades? We look at what both industries have to offer and if there is any truth to the swirling rumors:

Why the E-Sports Industry Has Grown Fast

Each industry benefits from its enabling factors, and the same holds when it comes to e-sports. So, what has propelled its growth in the past decades?

1. The availability of games: If you place bets on e-sports, you will never be short of games to play. So many tournaments occur at any given time and in different categories. You can switch between minor and major tournaments to increase your chances of winning. And, of course, this availability works in your favor in the long run as you can play multiple games in a day.

2. The availability of bookies: More bookies have opened up to e-sports, so much so that some dedicate their platforms to these games. Bookies have also been active in streamlining their sites to accept low deposits, offer better odds, and process fast payouts. That has made it a buyers’ market that helps players get the best possible deals.

3. The ease of entry: Unlike most betting opportunities that require you to be knowledgeable about particular games, you can start e-sports betting with little to no knowledge. It has made it easier for people who cannot invest so much time in research to make some good money on e-sports. However, if you are in it to turn a huge profit, you should:

  • Learn the basics of the games,
  • Focus on one niche and carve out the best teams and players, and
  • Research the factors in each game, including past events, missing players, etc.

4. Odds are not always a show of the real world: E-sports betting is relatively new, meaning bookies are yet to get the hang of things altogether. As such, if you can arm yourself with sound research, you can beat the odds compilers in their game and can make a lot of money.

These are some of the winning pros. The downsides to e-sports betting are what you would encounter in other online wagers. For example, players who use unlicensed sites put themselves at the risk of losing their winnings.

Can Online Casinos Keep Up?

The popularity of e-sports betting has put online casinos in the limelight, with many people questioning if the latter would end up phased out. But is this the case? Online casinos boast the following benefits:

  1. They are diverse: Like e-sports, a game is always available to players. You can play the live options or seek the adrenaline-inducing slots or video poker options. And given the number of websites offering such services, you can play multiple variations of the same game.
  2. They are trustworthy: As long as you use a licensed casino, you are always assured that you have a fair chance of winning – this is all thanks to random number generators. These produce random results. For example, if you’re playing slots, the software generates the next symbol. And this assurance that nobody will mess with the outcome makes people hope they can win.
  3. Most have offers: There is always something in store for avid and new players. You can get a chance to play free games or can get more money to spend on certain games. As such, you can use a site without depositing any money and still make a profit.

You must play with a licensed site; otherwise, you can lose your money or have your financial data revealed to a third party.

Will E-Sports Outgrow Online Casinos?

It’s easy to think that the e-sports market will grow so much that it will exceed the revenue from online casinos. But is it practical?

On the one hand, the e-sports market has proliferated and risen in popularity, especially among the young generations. Many younger people find it easy to grasp the concept of e-sports as many have gamed in one way or another. As more young people develop an interest in this type of wagering, the market share will grow. It is thus likely that it can bridge the gap that exists between this industry and the online casino industry.

On the other hand, casinos will not lose their popularity. Now that more people can access games via mobile phones, the industry has been growing fast. And it also attracts people in younger generations and will thus not die off as the older generations stop playing. If anything, the inclusion of new technologies like mobile apps, virtual reality, augmented reality, and social forums have only made it more attractive to new players.

As such, both industries will keep growing, retaining, and attracting more players over time. After all, they boast the same benefits for the most part:

  • Variety,
  • Convenience,
  • Low buy-ins, and
  • Varied payment methods.

Stating that e-sports will emerge as the top industry at this point would thus be premature (current and future insights considered). Instead, players can choose whichever industry they like best and bank on it to keep getting better.

Solar developer and children’s charity power up schools sustainability

Specialist solar project development company, Ortus Energy, is partnering with leading UK charity, The Youth Sport Trust (YST), to deliver a nationwide schools programme that equips young people with the skills, confidence and opportunities to lead change.

The ‘Youth Leadership Project’, powered by Ortus Energy, will use the inspiration and expertise of YST’s established Athlete Mentors initiative to empower young leaders to harness the positive power of play and sport to help improve wellbeing, build friendships, and foster better understanding of one another.

Apart from being environmentally educational, it will also support personal development and consider how young people – as well as leading more active and healthier lives – can work together for a more sustainable planet and future.

This project partnership works because Ortus Energy shares YST’s commitment to educate, inspire and make a difference to the communities in which they work. It’s aimed at young leaders aged 14-16 years to help nurture and inspire younger pupils.

Five schools across the UK (in Croydon, Matlock, West Bromwich, Carmarthen and Dumfries) are participating in initial co-creation workshops, with 15 more schools to join them for a pilot programme running September to December 2022. The national roll out will run January to December 2023 for a further 230 schools.

Alistair Booth, CEO of Ortus Energy, says: “We’re all about powering change – and change for the better. Supporting Youth Sport Trust enables us to demonstrate that commitment. The power of sport is important, it builds self-esteem, it encourages healthy competition and, most importantly, respect for one another. These are all core values we hold very dear as well.

“Through this collaboration, we also want to help schools become more energy resilient and invest in more positive outcomes – not only for their young people and future leaders through the inclusive power of sport, but a clean, green energy source that will dramatically reduce both fuel costs and their carbon footprint. Together with Youth Sport Trust, we will power a future that is sustainable for the next generation.”

Ali Oliver MBE, CEO at the Youth Sport Trust, adds: “We are delighted to be partnering with Ortus Energy.  These are extraordinary times for our young people and things have become critical for their health and happiness.  We live in a world where we are moving less, where digital technology is having an increasing impact on young lives and where children feel lonely and disconnected.

“This exciting partnership with Ortus Energy will enable us, the Youth Sport Trust, to empower communities of young leaders who harness the positive power of play and sport to improve well-being, build friendships and foster understanding for their peers. We strive to be a globally responsible charity and through our partnership with Ortus Energy we are also committed to enabling schools across the UK to access solar power, increasing their awareness and positive contribution to our climate change crisis.”

Dragon Taxis teams up with Cardiff mid-week cricket league

Private hire operator Dragon Taxis has pledged a significant investment to support each of the 34 teams within the capital’s mid-week cricket league.

The new sponsorship package will help towards the costs of league fees, match balls, match officials and pitch fees, which can often set teams back over £1000 for an 18-game season and a Cup competition.

Many of Dragon Taxis’ driver-partners play within the 100-year-old league, which is the UK’s second largest league, incorporating three divisions and two cup competitions.

Mojeid Ilyas, Diversity Community Officer at Cricket Wales, said: “Cricketers within the community are absolutely elated with this partnership between the Cardiff Midweek Cricket League and Dragon Taxis.

“We’re really thankful that Dragon got in touch to support such an ethnically diverse cricket league as ours and that they are making such an effort to give back to Cardiff communities as well as some of their driver-partners who are currently participating in the league.”

Khawaja Ali Ajmal, Secretary of the Cardiff Mid-week League said: “On behalf of CMCL, I would like to thank Dragon Taxis for sponsoring our 2022 season. This support will open many new opportunities for the cricketers, as well as helping them develop their skills.”

The league provides a great opportunity for driver-partners to get together and relax, with many younger players also within the league, being developed through the game.”

Dragon Taxis is currently seeking additional driver-partners to meet the surge of passengers returning following the pandemic and many of Dragon’s driver-partners who already play for the league find the freedom of being self-employed fits in well with their play and lifestyle, with realistic passenger fares of more than £1000 per week.

Dragon Taxis’ 34-team sponsorship will culminate in the Dragon Taxis Cricket Cup at Newport Cricket Club on Sunday, August 21st.

The Club is one of Wales’ most diverse and Dragon Taxis’ investment will help towards funding ground hire, the cost of officials, cricket balls and trophies at the highlight festival.

Dragon Taxis driver-partner Ranpreet Singh, who plays for Sialkot Cricket Club within the league, said: “It’s not only our club that appreciates this donation, but the others in the league too. A gesture like this from Dragon Taxis goes a long way to helping teams to continue to compete, no matter their situation.”
