Booming sports and advertising Group unveils new director

A TALENTED creative added a splash of colour to the leadership of a pioneering sports, advertising, exhibitions and signage business.

Rowan Freeman is now a director of the award-winning Dragon Group, based in Cardiff and Radstock, near Bath.

The company – which has clients across the UK and beyond – includes Dragon Signs, Dragon Digital, Route Media, Sportin Wales and Colour Studios, the exhibition and display arm of the Group that Rowan will head-up as part of her wider remit.

Employing more than 80 people, the organisation is led by Managing Director Rhys Harrington and has poured significant investment into refreshing and rebranding while remaining at the forefront of innovation and technology.

Hailing from Cardiff, Rowan has spent almost a decade in creative, administrative and management roles and was thrilled to take the next step in becoming a key part of the Group’s executive team.

Her focus is on sustainability, organic growth and fostering new partnerships in multiple sectors nationwide.

“I will be working across the Group with a specific responsibility for Colour Studios, that’s going to be a big part of my role going forward,” she said.

“I’ve loved every second so far and been made to feel so welcome by everyone here, it’s a learning curve but together we are already coming up with lots of ideas.

“It’s an exciting time as we are targeting different markets, with an emphasis on the exhibition space and expanding our services and supply of bespoke, recyclable product displays while exploring the firm’s year-round offering.”

Rowan added: “Dragon Group acquired Colour Studios just last year and there has been a lot of investment in machinery and the buildings in Radstock, but the biggest USP is the experience and skill of the staff, many of whom have been with us for decades.

“Sustainability is the core focus as a Group, in our journey to becoming net zero and for the loyal clients we have in Wales, the UK and overseas.

“I am thrilled to now be in this position, it is far more than a job and allows me to be creative and work alongside some hugely talented people whose skills cross over and complement each other across the Group.

“I would like to thank everyone for their support, I’ve been very lucky to have a great network of friends, family and colleagues who have inspired me to believe in myself and capitalise on this incredible opportunity.

“I am proud to be a part of Dragon Group and am confident we will continue to grow, to do amazing things and be bold and inspiring, for our customers and the sectors we operate in.”

With clients including Holland and Barrett, Leekes, FAW, Transport for Wales, dafabet, Travis Perkins, Leicester Tigers, the RNLI, universities across the UK, and Apetito, Dragon Group is one of the fastest-growing companies in Wales.

Rhys congratulated her on the new position and said: “Rowan is an asset to the Group; she has been a valuable member of the team for more than six years and is already making strides in her new role as Director.

“She has a great vision for Colour Studios and its place in the market, which will help us to continue raising standards and our reputation.

“We wish her the best of luck for the future, and I’m sure she will have a big impact on our strategic direction and especially our efforts to lower our carbon footprint and become a net zero organisation.”

Outdoor advertising company shows signs of growth across Wales

A MEDIA company has shown further signs of growth across Wales.

Route Media – part of Dragon Group – has expanded its footprint with new partnerships including a West Wales bus network, which serves passengers in Pembrokeshire and Carmarthenshire.

The contract will see 10 vehicles installed with streetliner and rear signage viewed by motorists and pedestrians in the popular tourist areas, which are visited by up to 10million people a year.

Also going live this month are a new portrait mega-6 digital screen on Newport Road in Cardiff, and a landmark large format D48 digital screen on the M4 at Newport.

Route’s network of smaller format digital signage also sees two new D6 digital screens installed in Bayview Shopping Centre in Colwyn Bay, and Newport bus station.

The business has a presence in towns and cities all over the country and borders, from Bangor to Bridgend.

Sales and Marketing Director Dean Jones said more and more organisations are turning to digital ‘out-of-home advertising’ to get their message across to a wider audience.

“We are really pleased to be working alongside Taf Valley coaches to bring a great new offering to the market,” he said.

“The region is a hotspot for tourists and these adverts will be viewed by thousands of eyeballs each week, an attractive proposition for potential advertisers.”

Dean added: “To increase our portfolio across Wales is a key strategy for our growth.

“Businesses in particular are seeing just how valuable it is to share their product or service with a captive audience via this high-quality visual medium, and that looks set to continue as we grow even further in the months ahead.”

Route Media has also installed digital screens at Eagles Meadow in Wrexham and others in Rhyl, Llandudno, Bangor, Swansea and more sites in Wales.

The new locations join its network of more than 700 advertising sites across the country.

These latest developments come after the business became advertising sales partner for Transport for Wales and its vast media estate, spanning both the rail and road portfolio in a bid to switch from static to sustainable digital assets and eventually lower its carbon footprint nationwide.

Digital advertising giant signs major deal with Wales-wide transport network

ROUTE MEDIA is on track for another successful year after securing a major national contract.

A pioneer in outdoor and digital advertising, the company is the new sales partner of Transport for Wales.

Digital and static media will be on display at stations, roads and on bridges in towns and cities across the country including Cardiff, Newport, Swansea, Rhyl, Wrexham, Bangor, Flint, and Holyhead, and over the border in Shrewsbury and Chester.

Transport for Wales was set up by Welsh Government in 2016 to oversee public transport in Wales, and this innovative partnership reinforces its focus on customer experience, the environment and wider impact on the Welsh economy in support of the Wellbeing of Future Generations Act.

Owain Taylor-Shaw, Senior Commercial Development Manager at Transport for Wales, is delighted to be working alongside a leading Wales-based business and said: “We are very excited to announce Route Media as our new advertising sales partner across our vast media estate, spanning both the rail and road portfolio.

“The barriers to entry to operate at this level are usually too significant for smaller operators to overcome as the sector is dominated by big global players, but Transport for Wales is pleased to provide this platform to enable a Welsh SME to grow and reach the next level.”

He added: “This partnership will create new employment in Wales, enrich our Welsh-only supply-chain and create the opportunity for Welsh businesses to promote to our passengers on a hyper-local level.”

As part of the seven-year deal, both organisations aim to eventually switch the Transport for Wales estate from static to sustainable digital assets, lowering its carbon footprint nationwide.

Adding this contract to Route Media’s existing portfolio means they now supply signage to more than 700 sites in Wales.

Route Media’s Managing Director Rhys Harrington said: “As a Welsh business we are proud to now be in partnership with Transport for Wales.

“Like them, we are always looking to support our economy, working alongside a network of Welsh sub-contractors, and moving towards our ‘digital-first’ vision as a sustainable, socially conscious business.”
