Hydes appoints Experienced General Manager for Wirral Premium Dining Pub

A leading North West brewery and pub retailer has appointed an experienced general manager to run its newly acquired premium dining pub in Heswall, on the Wirral.

Salford-based Hydes brewery has appointed Roy Wilson to head up the team at The Harry Beswick which is due to open this Autumn. The new pub restaurant will create up to 40 new jobs.

With almost a decade of experience with Hydes at some of its most successful premium dining pubs, Roy previously managed The Hornsmill in Helsby, near Chester since 2018. Prior to this, he was at The Jolly Thresher in Lymm.

Hydes acquired the building in Heswall on Telegraph Road earlier this year, which will see the conversion of the town’s former police station into a premium dining and drinking establishment. The Harry Beswick is named in honour of the original architect of the building.

The £1.3million acquisition of the Harry Beswick building is Hydes’ first property acquisition in over five years. The building has been empty for several years and is currently undergoing a £2.3m transformation. It was originally built in 1911 and was the town’s police station for over a century.

New general manager Roy Wilson, commented: “I know Heswall very well so the chance to establish and run The Harry Beswick from scratch is a major opportunity for me in terms of furthering my career with Hydes. Operating The Hornsmill for the past five years has been a great experience and to turn it into the successful operation that it has become, under the most challenging conditions the hospitality industry has ever faced, has been extremely rewarding. I’m hoping to replicate the success I had there to ensure that The Harry Beswick is equally successful.

“The location and the building are both outstanding. This coupled with a £2 million-plus investment from Hydes will ensure its reputation for providing customers with a premium dining and drinking experience will fit in very well with the vibrant bar, restaurant and social scene in Heswall. I’m also keen to ensure that such a magnificent building will now continue in such a positive way, bringing jobs and further prosperity to the area. Thanks to Hydes, The Harry Beswick will once again become an important local community hub.”

Hydes operates nearly 50 pubs ranging from Lancaster in the North to Stoke-on Trent in the Midlands and across to North Wales including a wide selection of premium dining destination outlets, craft style bars and traditional community pubs. Hydes currently operates one other establishment on the Wirral, the Boat House in nearby Neston.

Managing director of Hydes Brewery, Adam Mayers said: “Roy is a first-class manager and has done an outstanding job at The Hornsmill over the past five years. His experience and commitment is second to none and he possesses all the key customer service attributes that Hydes looks for in its employees. His skill in building dedicated, committed teams will undoubtedly help The Harry Beswick to hit the ground running when it opens and I have no doubts that, along with the team he assembles, a loyal customer base will be very quickly established.

“We are working hard to make sure The Harry Beswick will deliver a great experience for customers  with a quality, contemporary new design scheme and feel, combined with a premium dining and drinking experience and Hydes’ standards of customer service.”

The acquisition of the premises forms part of an ongoing multi-million pound investment programme across the Hydes’ estate over the next few years. Last year, Hydes committed over £4.5m to refurbishments of pubs across its estate and it intends to increase that investment substantially throughout 2023.

Adam Mayers continued: “After being left for years, it’s great to see such an iconic building being revitalised, fully retaining its significant heritage and history, which is very important to us and our customers. Now that we have Roy in place as general manager, we’re looking forward with great excitement to building an outstanding team of kitchen, bar and serving staff in readiness for The Harry Beswick opening its doors for the first time later this year.”

Hydes, with its brewery in Media City, Salford, was formed in 1863 and supplies beers to wholesalers, pub companies and other brewers throughout the UK and a pub retailing estate of nearly 50 pubs across the North West of England and North Wales.

Anyone interested in joining the Hydes team at The Harry Beswick should register their interest by calling 07917 575256. Positions of various levels of experience are available across all areas ranging from kitchen and bar to service and front of house.

Hydes invests £3.6 Million in Newly Acquired site

A leading North West & Wales brewery and pub retailer has acquired premises in Heswall, on the Wirral, Merseyside, and is set to open a new pub restaurant that will create at least 35 jobs.

Salford-based Hydes brewery has acquired the building in Heswall on Telegraph Road, which will see the conversion of the town’s former police station into a premium dining and drinking establishment. Hydes have also chosen to name the pub ‘The Harry Beswick’ in honour of the original architect of the building.

Born in Chester in 1856, Harry Beswick was county architect for Chester from 1895 until 1926, responsible for designing over 40 buildings including numerous police stations and school buildings.

The £1.3million acquisition of the building is Hydes’ first property acquisition in over five years. The building has been empty for several years and over the next few months will be transformed into a premium pub dining venue serving both quality food and drinks.

Hydes intends to invest over £2.3million in the restoration and refurbishment. It will open in late 2023 with a 35-strong team of fully trained staff.

Heswall police station was originally built in 1911 from red brick with sandstone and regional detailing including the county flag of Cheshire corn sheafs at the centre of the County Constabulary plaque.

The transformation of the building will be carried out by WHB Construction and designed by DV8 Architects. The iconic building will undergo a sympathetic and complementary renovation programme, retaining many of the original features, with design enhancements and touches reflecting the station’s history.

Part of the renovations will be to extend the building to create new dining zones, including outside dining with the addition of a welcoming sun facing terrace and the provision of car parking, resulting in a positive contribution to the street scene, and vibrancy of the town centre.

Managing director of Hydes Brewery, Adam Mayers said: “The Harry Beswick is a great location in a stunningly designed building boasting real history and character. Heswall is a thriving area and launching the Harry Beswick opens us up to new audiences.

“We are working hard to make sure The Harry Beswick will deliver a great experience for customers in the area with a quality, contemporary new design scheme and feel combined with a premium dining and drinking experience and Hydes’ standards of customer service.”

The acquisition forms part of an ongoing multi-million investment programme across the Hydes’ estate over the next few years. Last year, Hydes committed over £4.5m to refurbishments of pubs across its estate and it intends to increase that investment substantially throughout 2023.

Adam Mayers continued: “It’s great to see after years of closure the building being developed, fully retaining its heritage and history, which is very important to us and our customers. As one of our  premium pub dining pubs we’re confident that customers will love the Harry Beswick and also see it as a lasting honour to one of the area’s famous local residents.

“Hydes remains totally committed to all of the pubs across its estate and this latest investment is part of an ongoing programme of planned investment, redesigns and refurbishments. Providing our customers with a quality, memorable experience is a top priority, and we’re delighted to have secured such a stunning presence in Heswall.”

Hydes, with its brewery in Media City, Salford, was formed in 1863 and supplies beers to wholesalers, pub companies and other brewers throughout the UK and a pub retailing estate of nearly50 pubs across the North West of England and North Wales.

Rosebridge create UK business first, in collaboration with Vanguard and Redington

With the launch of their new DFM Proposition

One of the North’s leading chartered financial planning businesses, Rosebridge, today announced the launch of its DFM arm – Rosebridge Asset Management Limited (RAML) – providing the UK’s first offering of its kind within the industry.

By working in collaboration with two leading global asset managers in Vanguard and Redington, RAML will provide unparalleled asset allocation and fund selection analysis for its innovative range of risk rated active and passive investment solutions.

This is the first custom model portfolio solution global investment management firm, Vanguard, has entered into in the UK to date. They currently hold approximately $7Tn in assets under management, with a client base spanning 30 million worldwide,[1] and it is one of the first partnerships of its kind for Redington’s Global Assets team, which provides advice to institutional clients with an aggregate of +£500bn in assets.

Phil Rose, CEO of Rosebridge Asset Management Limited commented: “We are delighted to work alongside both Vanguard and Redington to launch our new proposition. We know that joining forces with two such renowned global asset managers and harnessing their collective expertise, research capabilities and bargaining powers will ultimately translate into better investor outcomes.

“The UK financial planning community is striving for this, and I believe we will see larger mid-market financial advice companies, not only build bespoke relationships with global investment firms, but also with platform providers to help increase efficiencies, reduce costs but most importantly enhance the service level agreements offered to consumers.

“We began the process of developing an innovative DFM proposition over two years ago. Thanks to the invaluable guidance of our Investment Committee, we took the decision to look for global active and passive investment specialists to work alongside in order to strengthen our consumer proposition.”

The strength of this expert duo is unrivalled and will provide investors with access to innovative active and passive investment solutions – the former being built on Redington’s market leading research and fund selection processes and the latter utilising Vanguard’s array of low-cost index tracking funds.

Additionally, the RAML Investment Committee bring a wealth of experience, retaining the independent expertise of Graham Harrison (Group Chairman of Asset Risk Consultants) to provide direction and unique industry insight, Peter Bickley (ex-Chief Strategist at Deutsche Bank UK) to monitor and review asset allocations and Mark Harris (award winning ex Henderson fund of funds manager) to provide quantitative and qualitative fund research analysis.

Phil added: “These bespoke relationships will ensure RAML’s investment solutions remain relevant and appropriate for the ever-changing investment landscape both now and in the future.”

Neil Cowell, Head of UK Distribution, Vanguard UK, commented: “We are delighted to work alongside Rosebridge Asset Management Limited for what is our first custom model portfolio solution with a financial advice firm in the UK. We’ve had a longstanding relationship, dating back many years with Rosebridge, and share many of the same principles; namely delivering value to investors, a relentless focus on low-cost solutions, and a shared alignment on investment philosophy. We will launch a range of index fund-based model portfolios later this year that we trust will continue to serve Rosebridge and their clients going forward.”

Determining the right investment specialists to work with posed a significant challenge to RAML given the high volume of active investment specialists. “Ultimately, it was Redington’s robust asset allocation, quantitative and qualitative research processes that truly set them apart.” said Phil.

Tara Gillespie, Head of Global Assets at Redington, commented: “We are delighted to be supporting Rosebridge Asset Management Limited in getting the best outcomes for their clients through outcome focused strategic asset allocation and manager selection advice. Supported by the deep expertise across our business, we will bring institutional strength solutions and access to innovative, best-in-class investment opportunities to RAML and their clients.”

RAML will be partnering with AJ Bell’s institutional platform to deliver their new investment solutions.

Phil added: “AJ Bell’s status as a FTSE 250 listed company greatly reduces the risk of a private equity take over. In our experience such events have caused significant upheaval, client uncertainty and poor service outcomes – this is something we wish to try and avoid.

“Whilst it has been a long and at times difficult process, we believe the bespoke relationships we have forged will place our innovative range of risk rated active and passive investment solutions ahead of those available within the wider financial planning community.”

Rosebridge Asset Management Limited is a UK based company – more details about the platform can be found here: https://rosebridgeassetmanagement.com/

MBO at multidiscipline construction company fuels turnkey ambitions

Multidisciplinary construction company the Beech Group (John Beech Limited) has announced the successful completion of a Management Buyout that will fuel the business’s focussed growth and turnkey service delivery plans, a deal advised on by the GS Verde Group.

Established September 1963, John Beech Limited has experienced significant change over the years, as methods and legislation both influenced ‘smarter’ and ‘safer’ working. Beech Group even had the privilege of undertaking works with the late Fred Dibnah, when a pint and demolition went hand in hand – though nowadays it is a cup of tea and biodiesel (HVO).

Set to celebrate their 60th year of trading in September, the Birkenhead-based Group has developed a wide range of services including demolition, scaffolding, geotechnical, asbestos surveying and removal, mechanical and electrical installation, and construction design management. The business’s clients come from a variety of sectors and include the likes of Land Rover, Stellantis – Vauxhall, Essar Oil UK – Stanlow, and Alder Hey NHS.

The MBO, led by Gareth Vaughan, will allow the company to begin to fulfil their focussed growth and turn-key service delivery plans, building upon a long and established reputation, in the commercial, industrial, automotive, and petrochemical sectors.

Since joining John Beech Limited in May 2021, Gareth has enabled the business to go beyond historic trading, from a £5-6m turnover, to over £12m 2022/2023, and from an historical average EBIDTA of £500k to £2.5m 2022/2023. The business is set to continue on this upward trend.

Managing Director of John Beech Limited, Gareth Vaughan commented: “The Beech Group has a well-established, experienced team in place to deliver some of the most hazardous services to new and continually valued clients. We are committed to the continued delivery of our specialist services to identify, manage, control and reduce and remove hazards, whilst protecting clients, their employees, and their brand reputation.”

Sellers Philip Jordan and Christopher Wainwright have supported the management team, providing them with an opportunity to take full control of the business with financial backing from SME Capital.

Said Philip Jordan: “We would like to thank all those involved who made the MBO possible. Gareth has been an integral part of the Beech Group, utilising his broad skillset and knowledge to expand and further develop our services and we look forward to seeing the business flourish under his leadership.”

Multidiscipline dealmaking experts GS Verde Group advised throughout every aspect of the transaction, including the financial analysis and forecasting, valuation, funding arrangements and legal structuring.

Lancashire Quality Engineering Company Roq appoints TBB to create new branding and support ambitious expansion plans

Lancashire-based Roq — a quality engineering company — is preparing for rapid growth with a reimagined brand identity, tone of voice, and website, delivered by West Yorkshire-based integrated agency The Bigger Boat (TBB).

The project forms an integral part of Roq’s aim to quadruple in size over the next four to five years.

Building on Roq’s clear values, culture, and reputation, TBB needed to ensure the 14-year old brand stood out in a crowded market. “More than values, you must demonstrate your expertise” explained Doug Main, creative director at TBB. “Everyone says they are ‘flexible problem solvers’ but the challenge is identifying what makes you better than everyone else.”

Roq CEO and founder, Stephen Johnson added, “Roq is evolving at pace, and has a clear vision to be the UK’s leading quality engineering company. It felt like the right time to revisit our brand identity, personality, and visibility, as well as investing in an updated website. We’ve always tried to punch above our weight with how we’re perceived, and wanted our digital home to act as an effective tool for self-promotion, lead-generation, and educational resources that reflects a company four times as big as we are today.”

Employing around 125 people across the UK, Roq is expecting to hire 150 new colleagues over the next four to five years – from experienced professionals to those studying STEM subjects at university through to new entrants into the technology sector via its ground-breaking apprenticeship programme. As such, defining its employer brand was a mainstay of the project brief.

Speaking about the positioning work, Carrie Webb, head of content at TBB (pictured above) added: “Roq is a people-focused organisation, and wanted its identity and assets to demonstrate its inclusive, values-driven approach to attracting and retaining colleagues, — by promoting Roq as an employer of choice and a great place to work.”

To guide Roq towards this vision, TBB took steps to ensure Roq’s colleagues are at the forefront, from photography capturing the real people — with real personalities — behind the brand, to tone of voice guidelines that enable Roq to create messaging that’s ‘human’ and easy to understand.

South Yorkshire heritage site to be restored following acquisition

A partially Grade II listed heritage site that has been derelict for years has been acquired by a South Yorkshire business that plans to invest in and renovate the area, restoring the local ‘eyesore’ to its former glory.

Family-run, Barnsley-based property and land specialists, Fairbank Investments Ltd, have acquired the Coal Drops, signal house, and former railway siding site at Penistone in Barnsley, signalling a new chapter of growth and development for the area.

The Coal Drops, which are located west of the bridge under Penistone Woodhead Railway, were Grade II listed in 1988. It is thought the six-arched stone segmented structure dates back to the mid-19th century.

The acquisition of the circa one acre development which is located on St Mary’s Street in Penistone, will introduce numerous positive changes to the area and will bring it into line with other development work and projects.

Restoring the unique and culturally significant location will also create a significant number of jobs as well as future prosperity for the site, which has fallen into a state of disrepair.

Through the site acquisition, Fairbank Investments Ltd has fully committed to developing the site, to benefit the local economy and the environment. The company has a track record of successful, sustainable development projects such as the old David Brown factory in Penistone revitalising the site by transforming it into a new business park with 15,000 sq ft of offices and a further 66,000 sq ft of warehouse space, creating new jobs and attracting multiple businesses to the area, prioritising eco-friendly design and building practices.

Antony Green, managing director of Fairbank Investments Ltd commented: “The Coal Drops is a hugely important site of cultural and historical interest in Penistone and we want to help preserve this heritage, rather than see the site continue to fall into further disrepair.  We are thrilled to be taking on this new project and are looking for the co-operation of neighbouring land owners to enable us to deliver a scheme that will benefit Penistone.

“As a business, we are passionate about supporting local communities, and we believe that this iconic restoration of the Old Signal House and Coal Drops will be a major step forward for the area. We’re excited to bring new businesses, jobs, and opportunities to the region, while also prioritising sustainability and environmental responsibility wherever possible.”

The Coal Drops, signal house and former railway siding site represents a prime location with significant mixed-use development potential. Active planning consent for residential development on the goods yard section of the site is under full review given the wider plans for the scheme. As part of the planning phase of the project, led by Fairbank Investments Ltd, working with M Booth Design Ltd, consultations are ongoing with local authorities and community groups to ensure that any new development fully aligns with the requirements of the entire community of Penistone.

In addition to the economic benefits of the development scheme, Fairbank Investments Ltd is also committed to minimising its environmental impact. The company plans to use sustainable building practices and technologies throughout the site clear and build, including renewable energy sources, to reduce the carbon footprint of the development.

Added Antony Green: “As a responsible business, Fairbank Investments Ltd has a proven track record of implementing successful development projects, particularly where restoration and heritage preservation is concerned. The acquisition of the Coal Drops, signal house, and former railway siding site is sure to be another major success story that will see the whole area transformed into a thriving and progressive development. We’re very excited to help bring new growth and prosperity to the region and are looking forward to working closely with the community to make the project a resounding success.”

In today’s competitive business landscape, it’s essential to make sure your Manchester business stands out from the crowd. After all, visibility is key when it comes to success. But how exactly do you make your business visible? From engaging in targeted marketing campaigns to leveraging social media platforms, there are a number of effective strategies that can help you boost your visibility and make your business stand out. Here, we’ll explore some of the most successful methods you can use to increase your business’s visibility, and ensure you make a lasting impression on potential customers.

Targeted Marketing Campaigns

Marketing campaigns are an effective way to increase your business’s visibility and reach. By targeting a specific audience with relevant content, you can ensure that your message is seen by the right people. To get the most out of your campaigns, it’s important to identify the demographic you’re trying to reach and tailor your content accordingly. When planning a marketing campaign, it’s essential to consider the platform you’ll use to reach your target audience. For example, if you’re targeting a younger demographic, it’s likely you’ll want to focus on social media platforms.

Once you’ve identified the platform, it’s time to create the content. Your content should be engaging and relevant to your target audience. You should also ensure that your message is consistent across all platforms and that it’s easy for your audience to take action.

Leverage Social Media Platforms

Social media is a powerful tool for increasing your business’ visibility and engaging with your target audience. The key to leveraging social media platforms is to create content that resonates with your audience and encourages them to take action. It’s important to keep your content fresh and relevant. You should post regularly and respond to any queries or comments in a timely manner.

However, it’s important to note that you shouldn’t post too often as this can be overwhelming and feel like spam to your audience. You should also ensure that your content reflects your brand identity and that you’re consistent across all platforms.

Using A Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) Agency

Search engine optimisation (SEO) is an effective way to increase your visibility and boost your rankings on search engines. By optimising your website and content for search engines, you can ensure that potential customers can easily find your business.

When looking to hire an SEO agency in Manchester, it’s important to ensure that they have experience in the field and are familiar with the latest trends and techniques. It’s also important to ensure that they have a clear understanding of your business’s goals and objectives.

Creating A User-Friendly Website

Having a user-friendly website is essential for any business. Your website should be easy to navigate and contain all the necessary information that potential customers may need. It should also reflect your brand identity and be aesthetically pleasing. When creating a website, it’s important to ensure that it’s optimised for mobile devices. This will ensure that potential customers can access your website regardless of the device they’re using.
