Digicel Deploys Enea AdaptiveMobile Security to Protect Mobile Networks in 26 Caribbean and Central American Markets

Stockholm, Sweden and Dublin, Ireland May 24, 2022 Enea the world leader in mobile network security, today announced that Digicel Group has deployed Enea AdaptiveMobile Security’s comprehensive signaling security solution to protect mobile networks and subscribers in 26 markets across the Caribbean and Central American region. Using the Enea AdaptiveMobile Security SS7 and Diameter signaling security platform, together with unique threat intelligence services, Digicel ensures unrivalled protection for its networks and subscribers in each country.

Bad actors and fraudsters exploit technical vulnerabilities to breach subscriber privacy, to deny access to services and to directly defraud both mobile operators and subscribers. Enea AdaptiveMobile Security’s award-winning signaling security firewall and threat intelligence solutions protect networks using signaling protocols such as SS7 and Diameter from continuous attack. This offers domestic and roaming subscribers protection from new and emerging cybersecurity threats.

“We are an operator group that places our commitment to security at the core of our operation, adopting a zero-trust interconnection strategy,” said Krishna Phillipps, Group CTO, Digicel. “After a thorough evaluation of the best possible partners to help us deliver on this vision, we selected Enea AdaptiveMobile Security’s security platform and threat intelligence services to continue protecting our networks against today’s threats and those we’ll face tomorrow.”

“Threat actors are well versed in penetrating unprotected mobile networks. As a result, it is critical that mobile operators work to actively secure vulnerable network infrastructure and maintain a managed defense. This level of security will be a clear differentiator for Digicel across all its markets”, said Brian Collins, SVP, Security, Enea AdaptiveMobile Security. “Our signaling security platform is enhanced by our unique signaling threat intelligence; we are continuously detecting and protecting against new threats and techniques used by sophisticated bad actors manipulating multiple network protocols. RCS Evolving into Next-Generation Marketing Channel for MNOs and Advertisers, Reveals Upstream Report

Rich mobile messaging allows Mobile Operators and advertisers to engage consumers with tailored, media-rich interactions that can be measured and optimised for maximum conversion

MNOs uniquely positioned to tap into RCS potential

London, Rio de Janeiro, Athens, May 19, 2022 – RCS (Rich Communication Services) messaging is expected to account for a growing proportion of global mobile operator revenue and become a vital channel for advertisers as they seek to enhance direct-to-consumer interactions and grow their first-party databases. That’s according to a new white paper, “Unlocking multi-channel marketing with RCS”, published by mobile marketing automation experts, Upstream, which explores rich mobile messaging’s emergence as a vital part of the digital marketing mix.

RCS messaging allows MNOs and advertisers to create highly targeted media-rich messages that can be heavily personalized to engage and convert users. Performance metrics, including open-rates and message interactions, can also be used to help advertisers optimize their content for maximum impact.

“Audiences today are very fragmented and have come to expect personalized communication. There is currently no single communication channel that fulfils all of these needs effectively, so marketers have had to adapt to using a blend of different channels to maximize engagement. RCS brings unique value to any multi-channel mix, combining the rich media capabilities of digital channels with the hyper-personalized engagement of the SMS world. The marketing use cases for the channel can only be limited by imagination,” said Kostas Kastanis, Upstream’s Deputy CEO.

Upstream’s data suggests that RCS is already becoming a vital tool in helping advertisers connect with users on a personal level, showcasing click-through rates (CTR) as high as 22.2%[1] and a 37% rise in conversion rates[2] over traditional SMS in a series of campaigns run across industries.

Since 2020[3] and its global roll-out from the Google Messages app, RCS has been gaining significant traction and the number of RCS-capable subscribers is expected to reach 3.8 billion by 2026[4].

This emerging trend toward rich mobile messaging comes as third-party cookies, once the cornerstone of digital marketing, are to be retired permanently. Advertisers that can no longer tap into third-party cookies as a means of reaching wide audiences with broad but often superficial marketing campaigns will instead turn their attention to creating engaging and highly personalized experiences to grow their first-party customer base.

Being compatible with the MSISDN (Mobile Subscriber Integrated Services Digital Number), the unique mobile number of each user, RCS allows mobile operators to verify the identity of the subscribers, making it easier to provide targeted and personalized messaging. Global MNO revenue from RCS is expected to reach $4.6 billion in 2026[5].

Kastanis, concludes: “It is time for mobile operators to capitalize on the developments in the digital advertising ecosystem and take a leading role in it. They are uniquely positioned to do so through their millions-strong subscriber-base and “owned” channels such as RCS and SMS. Using technology platforms that allow them to run multichannel campaigns effectively – and by the numbers – is a step towards this goal, and will help revenues soar in the coming years”.

Upstream is one of Google’s official messaging partners enabling RCS, and is recognized as one of the key players in the RCS ecosystem by the GSMA[6]. In Brazil, one of the leading RCS markets globally, Upstream is the biggest RCS sender.

Customer ‘retargeting’ on mobile driving 100x increase in sales, reveals new Upstream data

Automated retargeting via mobile can drive campaign efficiencies while guarding against spam

Athens, March 17, 2022 – ‘Retargeting’ a consumer via mobile that has already interacted with a brand is more than ten times more likely to result in an order or other positive engagement compared to an initial communication, according to new data from mobile marketing experts Upstream. The improvement is even greater, almost 100 times, if the mobile marketing campaign’s retargeting is performed on the same day the consumer initially engaged with the brand.

These findings were based on real-world campaigns being deployed on Upstream’s martech platform ‘Grow’. This award-winning platform is being deployed by MNOs and brands around the world, including via one of Brazil’s largest mobile operators serving more than 45 million subscribers.

The data shows that brands that are able to dynamically reengage with potential customers are seeing dramatic improvements in their mobile marketing campaigns. Mobile retargeting aims to capture customers that demonstrated an interest in a brand’s product or service, for example, by engaging with a website or going through a purchase process but abandoning the order before completing it.

“The unique data we extract from Grow provides actionable insight for marketers looking to fine tune their campaigns in a rapidly evolving digital marketing environment,” said Chrysa Karamanidi, Chief Innovation Officer at Upstream. “As third-party cookies are phased out over the next year, the ability to dynamically target – and retarget – potential customers using effective automation processes without overwhelming the user is becoming key to unlocking marketing success.”

According to the data released by Upstream today, same-day retargeting via automation leads to a 90 per cent increase in the campaign’s efficiency (sum of orders divided by number of impressions) compared to doing so manually. Automated features within Grow guard against ‘spamming’ by setting the volume of follow-up messages based on where the user had previously progressed to in the journey, ranging from an initial ‘bounce’ from a website to later stages such as the payment step. Automated retargeting via Grow requires nearly half the number of messages (-47 percent) sent to a user to achieve the same results.

Upstream unveiled Grow in 2021, consolidating audience management, automation, channel orchestration, insights and analytics, security, and a creative studio onto a single platform. Brands across multiple sectors, such as telecoms, education, insurance, banking and retail are deploying Grow to deliver successful multichannel campaigns.
